Adding a 15A circuit

I need to install a 2meter ham radio in my 2011 Tacoma 2wd SR5. Any suggestions?

I know nothing about CB's but if you need a new 15A circuit, you can tap off the fuse box under the hood and use an in-line fuse. If you pop the cover off the under-hood fuse panel, there's a bolt on the passenger side that is always 'hot'. Get a weather proof in-line fuse holder, crimp on a fitting so it slides over the bolt, tighten the nut down and then run the wire into the cab. Put a 15A fuse in the fuse holder and you now have a constant hot, 15A circuit. Oh, it's a good idea to disconnect the batter before messing with that bolt!

If you want a circuit that is only on when the truck is on, you can use a relay. Let me know if you want to go this route and I can tell you how to do that also.

Run your power for the radio from the battery. You'll get the cleanest power and are able to run the correct sized cables that way.

I used #6 to supply my rear fuse panel that powers my icom.

Fused power from the battery if you're so inclined... FWIW, that bolt I mentioned above comes directly from the battery but keeps the battery terminals free of excess wires and leads.

 

I take for granted people are intelligent enough to fuse within 8" of the battery or before passing through anything that can chafe the wire.
