I've had the same thing on some BF Goodrich tires & some Super Swamper SX tires.......still used them both for a few years with no issues.

It's called an Impact Break. It's usually caused by just that, an impact, and the result is broken cords in the sidewall. It's more common in lower profile tires that hit potholes, but obviously occurs in larger tires too.

Sometimes it is a defect from the factory but those usually present themselves within about 6 months of use. How long have you had them? Do you do much offroading?

how are these in snow? IM talking snow...not a dusting....

I live in MN we get a ton. I need new tires bad this year and my trail T/As are shot and are worthless in the snow.

Id be using my new tires all year round...not just seasonal. Looking for somthing that holds up well year round. Mostly city driving at this point. Not much off road.

Heard a good story about them from a friend: He and 2 others went snow wheeling and when they got to this hill 2 of them had to chain up and barely got up the hill (they said snow was really deep, they never touched ground) then as the last guys turn came to go up the hill (he has duratracs) they went to help him, but he went up the hill with no problems and no chains.

Im really close to pulling the trigger on some DuraTrac's. Would I have to worry about anything if I ran them on some 2nd gen. TRD wheels?

these are the wheels im running

I don't understand your question. What, specifically, would be an example of something to "worry" about with the tires? You go up a size (or more), then yeah, you need to "worry" about rubbing. That will happen with any tire.

    Other than that...

I shouldve been a little more specific, I believe a read somewhere on here about there being small issues with balancing due to some wheels not being wide enough, is that something I should be concerned about with my wheels

You're talking about an issue that is completely based upon tire size, not tire brand or model.

I've had mine for about 4 or 5 months and i really like them. They do pretty well in the rain and when I went to Rausch Creek Offroad Park they did fantastic. Ate that mud up with not a problem.
My only minor complaint is they are a little loud when at highway speed. Nothing a little music can't fix though.

they handled great, and I haven't had an issue with mine yet, lots of highway driving, off road and anything I have thrown at them.

Goodyear owns Kelly Tire, hence why the TSR looks so similar to the Duratrac. The TSR isn't a bad tire, the Duratrac is definitely better though. I think in the long run you would be happier with the Duratrac, but if cost is a big issue, you won't hate the TSR either.

Either tire is going to run the risk of experiencing balancing issues compared to a regular old radial tire like the Rugged Trail. Any time you get tread blocks that deep, there's a chance for balancing issues, but not enough that it can't be resolved.

BTW, your MX pictures make me hate myself for being such a wuss, I wish I could whip my back end out like that.

Mine are 265/75-16's. The shop didnt have an issue with balancing the tires but they did with the alignment. After i installed the 5100's my drivers side front tire was toed in big time, a bit more than the passenger side. I took it in for tires and alignment and the tech stated that the computer was telling him it was aligned perfectly but looking at the tire it was definately toed in. He adjusted everything to the best he could and said it wasnt perfect but damn close.
