So the 4S does this for sure? How bad is it to charge your phone of its at 40 or 50%. I've heard it's not good to charge and discharge when it's not fully dead or charged but how big of a difference does it make with the overall battery life

The iPhone 4 does this for sure so I would assume the 4S does as well. And the adage of not charging unless it's fully drained doesn't apply to these batteries. My iPhone 4 rarely gets below 40-50% before I charge it and it still regularly has 40-60% left after two full days and one night.

Ok because ive seen with my last phones that I would charge it when I'm in the car and just randomly and overtime the battery didn't hold it's charge. I just want to make sure I can do that with this phone and not affect the overall life of the battery

It's not a good idea to drain the battery all the way down and then charge it back up, at least in my "old school" thinking. :p

Every now and then it's fine, and some people think it helps "reset" the gauge. I don't really think that's the case. The lowest mine gets before I charge it is 30%.

10 years, 6 cell phones, 3 of them iPhones...I have and continue to religiously plug them in every night when i go to bed, regardless of the battery level. Never once have I had an issue with a battery "prematurely" losing charge or anything.

Same here - mine always gets plugged in at night, or at the office depending on battery level.

Fun iOS 5 tip in case you guys haven't noticed it yet. You can now delete individual calls from your recent calls list. Just remember cheaters, you'll probably want to turn off find my friends before going on your little tryst. ;)

correct me if im wrong, but the iphones, ipads, and macbook pros use a lithium polymer battery. they last like 7x longer than a tradition lithium ion, and you dont have to worry about not plugging it in if its already charged. Because it doesnt kill your battery

People also say it's nice to have a phone that continues to work for years, without slowing down or becoming buggy. Oh, and the ability to sell the phone for more than you paid for it, years later, is just a perk.

    Derp.

    Bingo.

You are correct about the type of battery, but I don't know what you mean about not plugging it in if it's already charged?

I was simply saying, some people believe that completely discharging the battery (down to 1-2%) and fully charging it again is not good for the longevity of the battery, if done repeatedly.

I have never seen any documentation to back that up, nor have I searched for any. It's irrelevant to me as I am always near a charger. :D

    This.

Most phone batteries today are LI-Poly because they're lighter (It is on my Android Phone). The damaging practice on LI is deep discharge:

idk if this thread talked about this already, but has anyone tried talking to Siri? You get some pretty funny responses. Like tell Siri I love you and other good things. Then tell it some naughty things LOL
