Photoshop request thread

Never asked before....

We (Wolfpack 5150 & I) are going to be auctioning off the grill in the picture below... 100% of the proceeds going to Brock's Brother-in-law's Charity.

If possible I'd like a few shots of the outer surround & toyota emblem color matched to a few of the different 2nd gen colors.

For me, it'll be hard to color change a black, chrome or grey one and make it look good. If you could post up a high quality picture of any one of the other colors.

Color change would probably work best with the red or blue one. If you use the blue, try to get a good shot where it looks blue. If it's too dark, we might have the same issue. White can work as well, but it takes an extra step (I add a color tint and then color change it).

Here's an example of a color changed white and a color changed black truck. You can see why black wouldn't necessarily look good.

Only if it's a different color. It's not so much the quality of the original picture. It's the lack of color. Reduce the glare as much as possible as well.

I never tried it but you might be able to airbrush white over the chrome of the photo, THEN overlay your colors, or use selective color, whatever your method is.... just a thought.

 

You can do that but you lose some detail. Plus with chrome, you'd have to blur a bunch of it to reduce the shine. Anytime you put a color layer over the picture, you'll lose some detail (imagine putting a cloudy sheet over a picture). You can sometimes bring it back by adjusting the contrast of what you covered. Keeping the transparency low helps too. That's what I do for white color changes.

You'd want to do a color other than white if you could because you're going to color change it again anyway.

White and black have basically the same problem. When using a color replacement tool, there's no color information for the tool to replace. With white, I can do a slight tint overlay (like I did in the example shot a few pages back). It doesn't reduce the detail much. White is easier since I only need a little bit of tint to effect a change. I can set the transparency real low (20%) so it doesn't affect the darker lines underneath as much. Once I have a color, it's simple to change it to anything else.

A low transparency tint on black doesn't change the color much so the overlay has to be much less transparent to see any color. Putting white over it in low transparency would just make it grey.

Once you have a color other than black/white/grey, it's a simple matter to change it to any other color (just pick it and draw). The color replacement tool will shade it correctly.

 

I'll mock up a different outer surround on it & take another shot in the next few days.
