Have owned 2, 1st gen tacomas and both eventually had thier corner parking lights come loose and it seems like on mine its because the plastic bracket attaching it to the corresponding headlight is inherently weak!

Any ideas on reinforcing it or in my case now that its broken does anyone sell a better corner light assembly than the OEM taking this 'flaw' into account?

My 1st Gen did this too. Cheap little plastic chingas broke off and the light was hanging by the wiring harness and slapping against the truck as I was going down the 5. Took a minute to figure out where that banging was coming from haha. Just got another one rather than try to fix it. Good luck.

Recently experienced this with new corner lights. Old ones were getting condensation so I purchased a couple from E-BAY sure enough I go to mount one and the tab broke (not completely through but it broke) . I ended up strengthening the tab with Fiberglass. It is strong you just have to sand it so it will fit the countour of the grill. So far so good.

It is a 3m fiberglass kit from homedepot should be near the adhesives like 14.00/ 15.00 or so. I dont have a lot of experience with it but just read the directions and took my time. Dont build the layers too thick I just wraped it twice with resin and fiberglass mesh let sit for two hours and sand to fit contours. Hope this helps. Regards BAZZ

You guys are over analyzing this whole thing. Here if you use thread locker it prevents you from having to over tighten it which weakens the plastic mounting points. PROBLEM SOLVED.

I dont think they are talking about screws necessarily but thanks for the threadlocker tip regardless. The tabs which mate the corner lights to the grill are not the most robust bracket design as in strength / thickness. They will break off just getting them into place prior to inserting and tightening the screws. Also the lights need to be inserted at an angle and I noticed on mine the tab inside the corner light housing of the fender well can get old and break causing it to become loose.

Mine were loose and I just tightened up the screw, will use the thread locker next time, I got the ( Blue stuff ) just didn't realize this was an on going problem.

Note, that 1st gen corner lights is different in early version (with sealed 200mm rectangular headlights) and later version (with plastic headlights). In early model corner has no such problem, only the later model has.

Mine did this as well. I put a small dab of bathroom silicon on the ball and popped it in the socket. Hasn't come loose yet, I've removed and reinstalled them twice without having to re-apply.

    Works like a charm!

Unless that upper tab breaks and then it's a little loose but that's about it. Usually as long as the nylon inserts haven't been stripped then all is well.

This image proves why 1st gen Toyota is better than 2dn and 3rd. :goingcrazy: You know why? Because the corner light mounting in 1st version of 1st gen is better than in 2nd version of the 1st gen. And that goes up and up through years :crapstorm:

The 1st version corner light has a "claw" at the bottom they goes into is a hole in a grille and top tab that mounts to the same grille with a "through hole" clip. Two screws from the side are just to hold the lamp from rattling (not really :)).

I have aftermarket (Ebay) corner lamp (OEM has orange reflective insert that is not legal in Poland) and after removing it so many times over last 10 years it is still like new - nothing broken. I still have in some box the original OEM lamp that came with the truck - also like new.
