Bob, here is a response to your post. I agree with you somewhat, however, I got tired of typing and this was getting way too long for anyone to actually read anyway! If you want me to continue, I will... :)

I think ALL politicians suck and they should ALL be thrown out. I'm not blaming one party... Obama has wasted NO time expanding welfare and Bush, leaving office, set a terrible precedent with that dumb ass bailout. So you're right, there is PLENTY of blame to go around.

However, I caution you on getting angry at CEOs, perpetuating liberal class warfare. Now I'm not attacking you here, just responding to the points you made:

    - perennially wanting to see their profit margins grow
If you own a business, don't you want it to grow? CEOs are hired for one reason and one reason only - grow the business. That is their only objective. And with that objective comes great risk. Because if they fail to grow the business, they lose their job. I have said this before on this site, but I'll say it again... Do I think it's silly for a company to pay someone $50 million per year? Absolutely. However, that is the decision of the board of directors. They obviously saw some value in that salary. They were betting that they would make more than that from his work. However, should that not be the case, shareholders should hold the board responsible for offering such a stupid contract. It's not the place of the federal government to put limits on how much ANYONE should get paid, not just CEOs.

    - do things like cut jobs
When times are good, do we not splurge a little? And when they are bad, we have to reign in a little. So, when a company is doing well, they might hire two people to file paperwork because it gets done faster and they have the resources to pay both people. However, when that company isn't doing well, should they keep both of those paper filers solely to keep someone in a job, no matter the repercussion on the business? Inefficiencies develop over time in companies and it's the job of that company to recognize that inefficiency and fix it for the good of the company.

    - introduce automation
Do you believe that progress is bad? Should we still have men on the rail lines hammering down railroad ties instead of how it's done now? Should we still have lines of people rowing ships instead of engines powering ships, all in the name of maintaining someones job? My point is that we as a people have to be nimble enough to adapt to a changing workplace. It is the responsibility of the individual to proactively increase their skill set to make them more valuable than simply the guy that bolts on the wheel of the car on the assembly line. That way, when their job gets automated away, they can adapt.

    - Sending American jobs overseas
Say you own a company that makes a hammer. In the US, you have to pay a 20% tax rate on ever hammer you create as well as the employment taxes you have to pay for the employee to make that hammer. If you could have that hammer made in Mexico for 5% per hammer and half of the employment taxes because you're employing someone in Mexico, you overall cost per hammer would go down meaning you could undercut your competition, selling more hammers. My point is that here in the US, we overtax companies for the business they do, making it very attractive to send jobs to places where the taxes are nearly as high. How do you fix that?? Somehow make it more attractive for them to stay here by lowering their tax rates!

What it comes down to is that it isn't the federal governments job to make sure everyone has a job, or food, or clothes and a home. The Constitution only provides for us to have a free society so we can earn these things ourselves.

The United States is the land of opportunity, not the land of entitlement.

    OMG...

Q: What are some of the tax breaks in the bill?

A: It includes Obama's signature "Making Work Pay" tax credit for 95 percent of workers, though negotiators agreed to trim the credit to $400 a year instead of $500 — or $800 for married couples, cut from Obama's original proposal of $1,000. It would begin showing up in most workers' paychecks in June as an extra $13 a week in take-home pay, falling to about $8 a week next January.

Yeah the bill is calling to put all health records on a centralized computer system. one step closer to universal health care.

I can't find the link now but you should see how many top economists say this is a horrible bill. Most of them being top college professors.

this pisses me off so much. Mostly to think that my children are screwed when they get older

I think some people missed the actual message in this article.

"The U.S. government has already—under a conservative Republican administration—effectively nationalized the banking and mortgage industries."

"—but it was, again, under a conservative GOP administration that we enacted the largest expansion of the welfare state in 30 years: prescription drugs for the elderly."

"History has a sense of humor, for the man who laid the foundations for the world Obama now rules is George W. Bush, who moved to bail out the financial sector last autumn with $700 billion."

According to Newsweek this is Dub-ya's fault.

well Newsweeks is fairly liberal too so who do you think they will side with? but spending another 8 billion with a proposed 2 trillion to buy up the bank's bad assets is smart?

He wants to go into Communications and be a broadcaster??? With that voice? Sounded to me like he'd hit the bong a few too many times. But PBO showed his ignorance by saying "it sounds like you have good communication skills"...

He *might* make it as a disc jockey, but HE'S got to do it. No one is just gonna say "here kid, McDonald's has prepared you well, come host our morning show".
