6.1 qts? Is that for a 4 cylinder?
edit: you pour a quart of new oil after you drain the old to flush the engine out? How exactly does that work if the engine isn't started?

We have a pump that we used for changing the oil in out wakeboard boat. Its got a hose, and a pump that sits on a bucket. hook it up to my battery and stick the hose in the oil catch, turn it on and unscrew the filter. sucks the oil right up :D

I've never heard of anyone pouring in a new quart of oil (not to mention synthetic) after draining the old oil to "flush" the engine.

Yeah...it makes oil changes sooo easy. I plug the end after it stops draining...in 4 years i've never had one drop on the driveway.

I leave the plug out, open the fill cap, and pour anywhere from 1/2 qt to a full quart through the motor. If you watch it come out, it will pull out some used motoroil that is sticking around inside. Costs an extra $5 for the quart, but I dont mind it. I usually do a full quart, but half should do the truck.

Imagine you have a bucket with a plug in the bottom, and a bunch of shit in it (filled with oil of course). You drain it, but there is still a coat of old oil on the parts. You pour clean oil over it, and it won't make it clean, but it will take some of the old oil with it.

i never replace it even when it goes bad... just wrap with teflon plumber's tape and it's gold. i lost it once on another vehicle and started cutting one out from the cardboard carton the filter came in. I just don't see the purpose in buying one.

what possible difference could it make?

This is the easiest and fastest vehicle to change the oil on I've ever owned, by far.

I used to snake a hose down but it's just so simple to put a water bottle under the filter drain and then pour out the few ounces that come out into the drain pan when I'm done. I had been buying the filters and washers online but I went to a local dealer the last time because I was out of filters/washers and needed a change. Charged me way too much for four filters. I just about could've bought a case of them online for the same price. Not buying from them again.

Why not permantly attach the hose and be done with it...no more looking for a bottle every oil change and taking a chance of forgetting it's in there.
As far as the dealership oil filters tell them to match the on-line price or you'll shop elsewhere. Believe me...the amount they mark that shit up they can more than afford to bring the price down and still make money. My dealership was more than happy to do it...all ya gotta do is ask! :)

why even do that? i tapped a screw driver right thru the top of the filter,
let it drain itself for a couple minutes and there was no oil to clean up
or drain, it drained itself fromt he vaccuum the hole created, couldn't have been easiier.

IMO, Some here may be over thinking this a little. I have coke bottle with a hole drilled in the top that just fits over the filter catch. It stays with my drain pan, funnel, and used oil container and never gets lost.

I bought like 20 crush washers for the oil plug at the dealer for a big $2 and keep them in my glove box on a twist tie. Why try to reuse one at 10 cents each. They should last me for about 5 years.

Why worry about flushing the engine with new oil to get out the remaining few ounces of dirty oil? You drive 50 miles and you'll have as much contamination of the new oil as you would just draining and filling. It's a waste of $6. Chances are that your old oil isn't that bad anyway at the regular change schedule.

Pick up a Fumoto drain valve. Get the one without the hose nipple or one with the short nipple.(I have the short one) It's still protected above the skid plate. I just reach a finger through the skid plate hole to open the valve. No need to mess with gaskets, ever. That and a plastic coke bottle for the filter drain make it the easiest, cleanest, and most hassle free oil change. With the truck clearance there's no need to jack it up or ramp it either. EASY
