Different Gear Ratio

I've noticed my truck seems like it has a really low gear ratio. When i take off i can hit 5th gear before 150 ft. When i go down the main highway doing 65 or 70 it is running about 3000 rpms. is that normal?

Just for notes I have a extended cab V6 4WD.

 

mines about 2500 rpm too... what size tires are u on?

 

My 04 V6 4x4 automatic with 265/70R16 tires runs about 2250RPM at 70mph on the highway. I'm not really sure I'm doing 70 since my speedometer reads about 3-4 mph slow on the highway radar signs. I need to get my GPS out and test it.

 

At 3k rpm--running 80--from what I have reviewed--it is normal.
I have the same feeling about fast shifting thru to 5th. Normal again!!

 

Seems rather high. Smaller than stock size tires could cause this. What is the diff code? B03A?

If someone upgraded the gears in it, say, went from 4.10s to 4.56s or 4.88s and it currently has 31" tires, that too would have the effect of higher than normal rpms.

 

I'm running 31's the truck actually calls for 225/70R15 but that sounds crazy!

 

ok so according to I should have 8" 4:10, 2 Open.

 

my 2000 v6 manual was turning about 2750 going 67mph, so that seems normal to me.

 

I'm about the same so i guess its a normal thing. I couldnt imagine how awful it tacked up before the previous owner put 31s on it!

If it has a B03A diff code, it most likely came with 31's (31x10.5-15'sor 265/70-16s) as the stock size. Regardless of what you find listed on the door jamb sticker.

Does it have an e-locker in the rear diff?

 

Yup! That could be my sticker except for the paint code and the vin. My vin isn't all squiggly like yours.

Mine came from the factory with 31" tires. So did yours.
