Left Foot accelerator pedal

Should anyone not having full use of their right leg, consider looking into a "Left Foot accelerator pedal". A very simple device that bolts to your vehicle floor and allows using your left foot to operate the existing factory right foot gas pedal. It is as simple as dirt, but it does what is supposed to. Most units "Flip" out of the way for other drivers use.

Two/four bolts mount it to the floor. I have mine mounted to a 2X10X1/2 block of steel that is bolted to the floor.

That's a practical idea! I didn't know such thing existed, would have thought that hand controls would be the choice.

How about trying to use it with a clutch though, haha.

 

I've installed quite a few of these things and hand controls along with right side controls for driver's ed schools.

I'll tell ya. Hooking them up to be right is the trick.
The HARD PART is road testing them and tweaking them after.
It's whole new ballgame......

 

Got a picture of the thing installed? Does it have its own return spring? The return springs inside the OEM pedal assy may not be strong enough to deal with the extra weight and friction.

 

If you dont have use of your right leg and you bought a standard... Kinda shooting yourself in the foot on that one, The left one.

 

Better to have no pedals at all and just use mind control...

 

I have used my left foor pedal for over 30 years now, in over a dozen vehicles. I have not had a problem with it not returning to idle position when your foot is releashed. Keep it clean and lubed. Mine has a small hole for oiling the through shaft.

I have found that bolting a 2X10X1/2 steel bar to the floor and then mounting the pedal to it allows me to straddle fuel and brake lines and position the pedal where I want it easier. I was able to utilize two existing holes by going through the front reinforcing rib. I bored 3/8" mounting holes for the plate then bored and tapped 1/4 holes for mounting the pedal to it. This also positioned the height better.

 

I used to install such things also.

I don't start getting wierded out now until I see someone driving with a joystick. Usually they require anti siezure meds and such too. That scares the hell out of me, but they are out there.

Supposedly they are working on systems that magnify legally blind people's vision to allow them to drive.

Glad that everyone is able to drive their Tacoma comfortably.

 

I'm all for disabled people being able to drive, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. If you have a medical condition that completely impairs you like seizures or are blind you shouldn't be on the road.

 

I agree with this but they will still prob get to have their license. Its gonna create a shit storm when one of them kills someone though, and hopefully its not one of my family members because I would go broke to fight this law.
