2011 cruise install success

Well, back around April I got the oem cruise switch and harness and installed it but cruise didnt work. Finally ordered the Rostra wire harness and tore into it today. As suspected I had no wiring for the cruise installed. After aprrox. 2 hours I pushed the cruise button and the cruise light lit up. Took it for a drive and everything worked great.

I figured I would let everyone that has been wanting to do this know that if you are a little bit mechanically inclined and not afraid of wiring that this is actually an easy job. Almost takes longer to remove all the trim work to get at the connectors.

So, that being said you need to get the cruise switch and small harness, and I also ordered the oem cover for the cruise. Was approx. $120 for all 3 pieces.

I got the wiring to go to the ecm etc from http://www.brandondist.com/
You can get just the harness, it isnt on the website, you just have to call them and tell them you want P/N 250-2735 which is the Rostra number.
Then if you have a manual of course you will also need to get a clutch switch.
All you have to do is follow the Rostra installation instructions http://www.rostra.com/manuals/250-1836_Form5188D.pdf
The latest revision of this includes 2009-2011 which the previous versions didnt. I followed it to the letter and everything went smooth.

Only other thing I can say or mention is if you do this and wonder about the lock on the connectors, they do not come all the way out, only come out a very small amount. I had to call my cousins husband who works at a Toyota dealership to find that out since I could not get the lock to come all the way out. I just didnt want to break it.

Thanks for the post. I also have a 2011 and plan on adding cruise control. What is the harness that you got from the dealer? Did you just ask them for the switch and the harness that goes with it or does the harness come with the switch? I've called the dealer asking them for what parts I need to install cruise control and they say that they don't really know. Maybe its related to the fact that all of the wiring that you got from brandondist.

You will need #8 and 9

Then you will need the small trim piece around the switch. You dont need it I guess if you want to cut a hole in yours per the Rostra install guide for the switch otherwise the piece is only $3.16 You will need the W/cruise control Right.

Then as I said for the rest of the wiring just call Brandon distributing. Thats something like 11.07 for wiring and 10 bux shipping.

My dealer is about the same way, no one knows anything about it and has never installed this stuff. They just do the Rostra wireless cruise. I honestly think you can install the oem stuff faster than the Rostra wireless.

I completed my install. I bought the complete Rostra kit from http://www.brandondist.com. The install went OK and it works! I ordered the complete kit which is 250-1836 for my 2011 as well as the 250-2735 that you mentioned. It turns out that 250-2735 is included in 250-1836. Not a big deal. Now I have some extra terminals if I ever need them. The control stick is not OEM even though it looks very similar if not identical to the OEM stick. Some of Rostra's sticks are OEM but not this one. I tried to order a stick from my dealer but for some reason asking for that part puts them into some kind of a tailspin. They just don't know what to do.

At first I didn't think it was working because the accelerator pedal would not move away from my foot when I engaged the system but then I remembered that that will not happen with these electronic accelerator systems.

Thanks Tom0662, I've been meaning to do this but couldn't find the part # for the wiring kit, had the lever already. Ordered it and received it last week for around $25 and paid about $15 for the lever so for around $40 I've now got cruise, $45 I still have to get that cover. I'll be adding intermittent wipers next.
