Anyone have one? I'm looking for an assault rifle w/ good accuracy, reliable, and fairly cheap rounds. My buddy introduced me to the AK-74. Piston driven just like an AK-47 for reliability. Ammo is slightly smalller than an AR-15. Any opinions or facts are greatly appreciated.

Ammo price is attractive. I'm eyeing this as my next large purchase.

You can pick up saigas now for 300 and spend a little more and be otd with a home conversion for under 500. Genuine russian quality AK74.

i have a 74 and like it for one reason, 1080rd cases of ammo for under $130 corrosive of course but who cares, i throw mine in the bathtub with some dawn dish soap after a range session and scrub it somewhat clean, not a spec of rust so far

The reason I wanted an AK-74 is because ammo is cheaper. Are you in St. George??

Maybe 5.56 wouldn't be a bad idea. Everyone seems to be out of 5.45. WTF??

I have the ak74 and I love that rifle, it is my go to rifle. I like it better than my Saiga 7.62x39.
As for ammo, look at aimsurplus or SGammo. Hell I can't find a place that doesn't have it in stock.
I am thinking about getting another saiga in the 5.45 and converting it. Hell they are only 299.99 @ J&G's.

I am more of an AK-47 guy myself(like the hotter ammo) but check gunbroker or cheaperthandirt and if you live in a gun friendly area check the pawn shops.

I've had problems with AK's and the smaller rounds(smaller than 7.62x39). For some reason the rifle wouldn't cycle correctly with smaller rounds. 7.62x39 really isn't expensive especially if you use TUL ammo.

i've filled my 74 with dirt, burried it, thrown it yada yada it hasn't had any function problems, we actually locked the action back with a magazine inserted, threw a handfull of dirt in it and let the bolt fly, ran fine i only do this cause it's a beater rifle and i could really care less about it

7.62 is really expensive when compaired to 5.45...

I haven't shot an AK74, I believe it was actually an AK47 with that was converted to the .223 ammo and it was shitty.
