Still reading it but apparently DC has only a single gun "dealer" and he is open only because of the potential for a lawsuit. Sees people only by appt and for 4 hours/day.... DAMN!

Given the crime rate in that town, I wouldn't have an open door policy either. If the is gun owner friendly, then the locals had better visit / buy something or they will lose the one shop that they have. When business gets better he will either expand his hours or risk someone else opening up down the road. Thats Capitalism.

Im sure the guns used in those crimes weren't legally acquired which means that those laws do nothing but severely hinder the lawful purchase of weapons for enthusiasts or, as in the authors case, self defense.

The only gun guy in town does about 250 transactions/yr. Apparently the building he was originally in closed and DC gave him a list of places he could set-up shop - it was so limited that he wouldn't be able to open. According to the article it would have opened up DC to 2A lawsuits so they gave him space in the government building.

IIRC the gun store is actualy in the same building as the police dept. The zoning laws for gun stores were so strict there would not be anywhere to actuly have one so they decided to stick him in the PD.

yeah in D.C. you're a subject, not a citizen, ....and it wasn't until Heller v. D.C. case was won that D.C. was forced to even (gasp) "allow" you to own a gun there... hopefully the story the chick (above) is doing will show the absurdity of gun rights in D.C. to a wide ranging audience!
