Or are at least challenging to get too. When I was in Hawaii a few summers back the locals were always telling me about these sick beaches that you NEED 4wd to get too. They said they were the best because tourists couldn't get there, plus they were a fun challenge to get too. Does anyone know of any beaches like that in the SE? I'd really like to find something like that in FL. I've been looking at the Big Bend area from Cedar Key to Apalachee Bay, trying to find info with google but havent found anything yet. If they are super secret don't post them here, maybe PM would be better?

Can't help you in FL but I know on Long Island we had some beaches where you could get to less crowded areas that most couldn't get to because you needed to drive out to them with a 4x4 but the county was smart and charged you for a beach permit every year so you could access them. It was always nice because not only was it less crowded but you didn't have to lug all your sh*t from the parking lot because it would be with you. I also used to enjoy tugging F250s and Silverados out with my Rubicon. Most of the time it was the morons too stupid or lazy to be bothered with airing down their tires but it would be funny seeing my little Rubicon with 4.5"s of lift and 33s tugging out a full size with a lift and 35s.
I would imagine a state like Florida would have to have some of these types of beaches.

I've been searching for something like this in South Florida. all the beaches are either easily accessible, or private. I want to find a beach that you can drive on in south Florida. There used to be a spot in Palm Beach that you could access the beach with a vehicle, but people kept getting stuck, so they blocked it off...

I was stationed in Crystal River,fl for 4 years and I don't know of any beaches like that! Lots of back roads and dirt roads but not a lot along the water....not really beaches over on that corner of the state.

On the east coast of Baja California! Not a secret, but nearly always empty because it does take 4WD and deflated tires to get to...

Padre Island National Seashore (PINS) http://www.nps.gov/pais/index.htm in Texas, the first 5 miles of beach is maintained, but at the 5 mile mark, 4wd is required past that point.

Actually I was down to 15psi. Its hard to tell though because the tires are load range E, so they really dont bulge out too much.

My tires are P-metrics, so no stiff sidewall. You need to go down to the 8-10 psi range when you have LT/ 3 ply sidewall heavy tires.

How did you get out (please don't say you had to be pulled out!)?

no, I used a 5 gallon bucket full of water on each wheel to wet the sand underneath and was able drive out.

Excellent move! I also have done that method... back when I first used Cooper Discoverer STTs (3 ply sidewalls) on that beach and then used low range! That was back in my '05 Taco...

More recently, did that when Art drove his 4WD motorhome onto Shell Island the first time and didn't let enough air out! He tried using his front and rear ARB lockers... just dug him in more! Look (the waves were splashing against his tire).

    July 4 weekend 2010:

    710Shell014_ea42b27b0c40eb1664a7dfb9f4f8a9645c7428e7.jpg

After letting more air out, and wetting the sand with sea water, I had to convince Art to turn his steering wheel downhill, towards the sea! He drove out just fine...

He was so happy, saying "I got floatation!":

Not secret but plenty of beaches to drive in NC, I have a whole island to drive on. Up north in the state they have whole towns that require 4x4 in the OBX

Cool! I love driving in deep, bottomless sand... Finding the ideal point a vehicle will 'float' and not sink in is great!
