LED Hood Scoop Mod

I've seen a couple threads about how dumb it would be to mount a real LED offroad light in the hood scoop. Guess I'm dumb .
Rigid Industries SR 10" Specter LED light. 5000+ Lumens (it's really bright). Fits in the scoop like it was made for it with very limited modification. I only had to modify the screen and the plastic behind it. Even better, there is a bracket that already exists under the hood that it mounted perfectly too!
I have the TRD Sport so I sired up the switch to the blank where the Diff Lock would normally be. Here is a quick pick from my phone. If anyone is interested in the details just ping me.

Thats a great idea for trail use.

 

Just make the LED's red, get them to scroll back and forth and you'll have a Taco version of Knight Rider's KITT car.

I'm still looking up the laws... Looks like in Oregon you legally light up your lights if they are mounted below 54" (I wouldn't as this thing would blind anyone coming toward you).

I'll get some night time pics and post them. Fired them up last night on the road for the first time. Not quite the reach of my high beams, but 10x brighter. It's like turning on daylight. I love it.

 

No it is not legal, and just my opinion it kind of looks Ghetto

 

I believe it would be as legal as any other auxilliary off-road lights. As long as they are not red you should be fine. I've had small amber led's in mine for about a year now that come on with the parking lights. They are not that bright and do not project light forward as headlights would do.

 

^ ^ That all depends on where you live.

To my knowledge, it is perfectly legal in most of the Central states (Texas, Arkansas, etc...).

As others said, as long it is a white light and you follow the same rules you would for your high beams, you should be fine (assuming your state allows for this).

I would definitely be interested in seeing some night shots.

I would think you'd get a hell of a reflection off the hood at night.

 

It is illegal in WI - all secondary lights must be located below the center-line of the headlights or be covered during highway use. Additionally, you are only allowed to have two additional auxiliary forward facing lights.

Which is to say, I've looked into doing just this.

Except it was going to be a scrolling message bar, and it was going to hurl abuse at the moron ahead of me.

 

I'm sure there are a lot of states where it is illegal, but it will all depend on where the OP lives.

not unless it was able to get out over the hood and spray some good light cover. from what i've seen from some led bars they are powerful

 

Love it! I don't have a scoop but have been eyeing some of those bright led

 

I dont see any of that light getting to the ground.... I CAN see it bouncing off the hood and blinding everyone around.... But lets see some night pics.

 

like i kinda said above, if its angled up it would cast out some light over the ground. nothing like fogs would, but just out in front

cant really tell from the pic if it would pass over the hood or not.
