ha, I signed just before my senior year, and I was ever so luck to turn 18 yrs old in bootcamp!

It all seems like a dream though, I've been out since Feb 2010, and it all seems like a dream, all in the past, but with some awesome, and unforgettable memories.

Since this is a BS thread I guess I can rant a little here.

This is for all civilians that happen to read this. I really don't care that you "almost" served or that you have friend that is serving or that your Uncle's Brother's Cousin's Nephew is or has served. The point is that you didn't so don't use it to either impress me or try to use it to build a bond with me. If you want the brotherhood and the comaraderie then join up, otherwise, I could give two shits.

Note: The only exceptions are mothers and fathers.

Okay, rant over. I feel better now. Thanks

AMEN!!!!!!!!!! I hate people who have those damn "My Such and Such is a Soldier" stickers. Like you said...Parents get to claim some credit. Spouses get to claim some credit. That's the end of it.

I agree to a point. I appreciate the sentiment when someone says "thanks," but then qualifies that with "I almost..."
Either you did or you didn't. It's that simple. You and you alone have to live with your decisions about your "almost" service.

OH they never found out about it! :anonymous:

hahahahha you got IT for that smile face! hahaha *points and laughs*

My sis sent me a letter with hearts, xoxoxox written on the envelope but some how the SDI never saw it! :p

Seriously though, when you're going through bootcamp it seems crappy, but when you look back, you think "only in the Marine Corps"

Remember the first few nights when you join a platoon after receiving? The first few nights when you're lucky enough to stand watch at the hatch with 3 stacked foot lockers that the DI would fucking kick over as you try and scream and babble the MC General Orders..

    haha those were the days!

They can say thanks without trying to claim credit for someone else's service.
I had a guy who's car was hit by a lady who got out and started freaking out because she didn't have time for this her son-in-law was deployed and she can't believe this would happen to a person like her blah blah blah...had the "I'm in a Navy family" or whatever sticker on the car....and just melts down at my guy...completely unaware that he is actually on active duty. That is being out of touch with reality. Not saying that everyone with those stickers is this way...but it can be very indicative of folks riding coat tails.

I worked with a guy a couple years ago who told me that he tried to join the Marines but that they wouldn't take him because his brother was serving in Vietnam. What utter BS.

The kicker was that this guy was the most gung-ho motherfker that I ever knew. He wore the camo pants, kill em all t-shirts, and was always talking how we should bomb this or bomb that and kill, kill, kill. It was enough to make you want to throat punch the asshole.
