Flat Tire - WTF

This morning I ran over a metal object that I didn't see. It tore a huge chunk out of my Duratrac and gave me a flat. I lost all my tire pressure in under a minute - the gash is big and ragged. Pretty sure it is done. Not a good start to the day. Which leads me to a couple questions.....

1. Why is the OEM jack so short? I tried to use it as described in the manual and it was 4 or 5 inches shy of tall enough. I found a chunk of 2x6 to boost it up and was still not close. Anybody else think the OEM jack is worthless?

2. I lowered my spare tire (damn that thing is ugly) to find that it is a 16" wheel with a 245 tire - kinda small for a truck that comes with 17" wheels. Is that little donut the right size spare?

WTF!! I'm gonna have to break out my jack & spare tire to see if they're gonna be of any use to me at all. I have AAA Roadside Assistance, but it's good to have a reliable jack & spare tire.

 

I think you may have run into the same problem I did.

With the jack, you need to unscrew the first section of it as far as it will go, then jack up the rest of it. It reaches just fine.

 

My jack works just fine. It gets my 33 of the ground a good 4 inches and that is on the frame.

 

I run the 16" ORs and 275 Hankooks. On the mod list is a 5th OR wheel and another Hankook. Then I can bolt it in the back, ditch the factory spare and rotate the 5th wheel in with the others. I plan on doing some hunting out west next year and have no desire to be out in Wyoming on a donut.

The bottle jack does suck, but I keep a couple 2x6s in the truck to boost it up. Works OK so far.

 

I was always scared to jack it up much past the first sleeve, but you're saying it's OK to max out the travel? That's good to know.

Well the SR5 models come with 245s so I'm guessing that's why it has a 245, and they dont bother to change it if you get a TRD package. Can you take a picture of the spare? I have never seen it, and I'm wondering if the wheel looks like the SR5 wheel

 

It sure seemed maxed out. I was lifting the truck from the frame and saw both sleeves of the jack extend...maybe I will try it again in the morning.

I didn't know everybody gets that nasty little steelie.

 

My TRD OR came with a full size spare. Different 16" rim, but it's a the same rugged fail as the others. But it's a 265.

 

same thing, I drove a few hundred miles on my spare, same exact size as the rest of the tires 265/70/r16

 

Sounds like it's time to buy some sliders and a hi-lift.

I am not stoked to be rolling on a 245 Grandtrek.

My TRD Sport should have come with a full size spare, yes?

 

mine did not

 

My 2007 TRD Sport Prerunner came with a steel 265/65/17 spare. Same tire as on my four aluminum rims.

That's the original tire size on the sports. The wheel size makes no difference is tire size except the cool factor and rubber band look. It's full size for your truck but not your setup.
