    I talked to Ben at Toytec and we figured out what the problem is.
    Often times when these things are assembled the shock boots are left off for aesthetics but there is a machined washer in there (see pic) that is then left out of the equation.

    All I should have to do is pry these things out and add them under the top plate.

    Fixed my struts today. Took me a few hours but it's worth it. Remember that picture of the strut (previous page)? Well, it's all fixed now. Properly compressed now that the spacer was added underneath the top plate:
