Hello, new to all this forum stuff. Just got a 2011 TRD Sport. Since my wife and I ski the backcountry, climb way out in the middle of nowhere and mtn bike even further out there. Sometimes 60 miles to the nearest pavement and 100 from a gas station, it would be nice to have gas in the tank when we get back to the car. Local parts stores don't have locking gas caps nor does the dealer. The dealer says that after market caps, if you can find them, may have issues with proper sealing. Can anyone help with a locking cap? thanks alot!

Welcome to TW. You should be able to find them on Amazon or something if there are no local auto parts stores in your area.

Our fill tube has an anti-siphon screen! Locking gas caps are a waste!

Got mine from Schucks (O'Reilly), kept the old one just in case but over a year and no issues. Truck has gone through months in WA rain and several days of sub zero and over 90 degree weather when I moved to NJ. Never had a light or code go off. Just use the book and buy the matching part # and enjoy theft free and tamper proof gas!

Just picked up a 2011 TRD Sport on Sunday and new to the forum. I checked a couple auto parts stores and apparently they still do not have one spec'd out for the 2011. I bought one for a 2010 and will try that. But, has anyone found one that is for the 2011 yet? Thanks

    None yet! It's new!
If you travel to Oregon and you don't want some stupid gas jockey messing with your gas tank filler, put a locking cap on it... they they have to wait for YOU to get out of the truck and unlock it. :)

Oregon has a law - you cannot fill your own gas tank there. The gas jockey has to come and pump it for you. If you put a locking cap on it, they at least have to wait for you to get there and unlock it. So... they're less likely to dick something up or scratch your truck somehow.

    That's kinda ghey.

Besides this reason quoted, a locking gas cap on our trucks is absolutely pointless! A; the siphon I have doesn't fit in the filler tube (smallest I could find) B; there is a screen in the filler tube preventing anything (siphon) from getting to the fuel....

Another thing... if you want to know EXACTLY which cap fits your year vehicle, go to www.stant.com and look around for the link that takes you to where you can put in your vehicle and year, and it will tell you all of the caps that fit your truck... oil, gas, etc.

I got the Murray Locking gas cap from O'Reily Auto Parts, works good, and can be in non locking mode or locked.

I got better things to do than sit around staring at my truck all day and night. The anti-siphon screen is good but random asshats dumping stuff into your tank, for nothing more than grins and giggles, is a very real concern. Don't have ta piss 'em off first, you won't even know 'em.

+2 for a Stant locking gas cap.

FWIW, I was in college in the DC area in the mid-70's when gas was not only expensive, but impossible to get. There was rationing based on license number digits, and long, long lines to buy gas. So, some people were stealing gas, and that led to big business in locking gas caps. Unfortunately, enterprising theives would slip a tub under your car, punch a hole in the gas tank, and take your gas that way. FWIW, a tank of gas is a lot cheaper than a tank repair.
