so the 05-12 models are the exact same?
i heard something about the rear locker on certain year models being changed so i was curious
if thats the case then the earliest year i can find at a dealer would be the best choice if id only be paying for a certain year model...

IMHO, first generation access and double cabs are the finest looking trucks on the planet. I'm partial to the DC but the balance of the AC is perfect.

I upgraded to my 2005 from my 04...needed the extra room as my 04 was a single cab.

I got the 05 for the added room (4 door) and power (4.0 V6)...plus I needed something a little more off road capable so I opted for the TRD Off Road

OP, you can get a 6sp in a Double Cab Short Bed. Its the DC Long Bed that you can't get the 6sp. Cuz I have DC SB TRD O/R with the 6sp.

As mentioned, the 05-08's have a rear seat set up which creates a nice storage area when the seats are folded down. 09+ have bulky fold down seats, and some like mine came with a big, bulky sub woofer which takes away from the storage area behind the seats. This is the only negative I have with the 09+ models.

I like my 2007, no fancy electronic driving aids and warning bells to tell me the truck is second guessing my driving.

Just to help the OP, I will clarify the above. Not all 2007 are free of electronic driving aids. VSC/ALSD/TRAC/DAC/HAC was an optional package for TRD Off Roads from 2005-2008.

'07+ as it has a reinforced frame where the engine mounts attach. The v6 '05 and '06 trucks have problems with the engine mounts collapsing into the frame rails.
