Transmission acting strangely

Hi All,

I have just joined and I am wondering if I can get an opinion(s).

I have a 2005 TRD, with a automatic transmission. The truck has 140K and had the transmission checked about 20-30K ago. I struggle a bit with the transmission not having a dipstick as I feel it is harder for me to monitor fluid levels, but that is a side note. The truck does not leak.

After I have had to break hard and come to a complete stop, when I then put my foot on the gas to start to move forward the engine seems to rev for a second or two then “clunk “ it will engage. I am not clear on if this is a transmission issue (maybe an issue with the torque converter?) or sticking breaks (although the breaks were serviced and replaced 10K ago).

This is my first Toyota, I moved over from the domestics, and love the truck.

Confused? Yes, yes you should be. My error. Sorry, it should have been written "Automatic". Nice clarity for my first post eh?

 

If its a 4X4 check your fluid in your transfer case.If it is overfilled the seal between the transmission and transfer case is bad letting the fluid go from the trans to transfer case.Sounds like the transmission is low and the only place for it to go if it is not leaking is into the transfer case.I had this happen on a Ford I had.I would take care of this soon so you don't damage the transmission.

 

i had this happen to my chevy. $3400 lesson..

I have an 06 DC Prerunner and it does the same thing. No leaks either.

You'll probably want to edit your OP, as I read the entire thread thinking about issues with the 6-speed that would cause this...then found out it's an automatic.
