Fox Shox vs Toytec Ultimate Lift

So over the weekend I bought a set of TRD Anthracites from forum member huyissuperman (great guy, with lots of cool stuff) and he turned me on to Fox shocks.

I was already eyeballing the Toytec Ultimate Lift kit along with the optional Leafs, but now huyissuperman is thinking about packaging his own set using Fox Shocks and All Pro leafs.

So, my question: Which should I go with? Price isn't an issue (though seems the Toytec will cost more)

Now I usually go off-roading only 4-5 times a year out in Mojave, with an occasional jaunt through the beaches of Baja, but my Taco is my daily driver.

From everything I've read, the Toytec feels the most like factory, but I haven't heard any comparisons to the Fox. Thoughts?

 

Fox is a way bigger bang for your buck if $ isn't an issue! I like my Toytec's but am needing an extended travel coilover for wheeling. As far as street ride, Fox's valving is progressive so they should be softer at slower speeds and firm as the shocks compression speeds up. The Toytec's 5100 is digressive and will be firm at slow speeds and soft as the speeds increase. Keep them around 2.5" lift for the smoothest ride. Personally, I like the digressive valving and was going to upgrade to Icon's for that reason but have yet to ride with Fox!

PS - For those prices you should jump on the full Fox package and def get the UCA too! That way you wont have to re-do everything later! Plus, you'll start wheeling a hell of alot more now that you will be fully capable!

fox shocks are better than toytec in every way.

toytecs are cheap. you might as well get 5100s with ome coils than get the toytec kit

 

Not even close of a comparison, Fox setup is better hands down. Plus, they're being offer for cheaper!

 

I realize some people have had issues with toytec, but they're no as cheap as everyone says they are. If you're not looking for a full race style rebuildable shock toytec is the best you can get.....mainly because the 5100 is a digressive maintenance free shock and does very well on/offroad. Toytec has matched eibach springs and the adjustable collar and is the best you can get without going to a race shock. I stand by toytec and their products and have been very happy with them except for the type of wheeling I do would prefer an extended travel shock! Toytec out performs OME in my opinion!

the toytec coilover shocks are the 5100's, looooooooook close. I would still go with the fox's as you'll be getting more bang for the buck in performance. Is the fox's 2.0 or 2.5?

 

The Toytec Ultimate Lift Kit was the one I was looking at, which are the Bilstein 5100s.

05sctaco, the Fox's are 2.5" lifts. I presume that's what you were asking.

 

He was asking about shock diameter. Hopefully they are the 2.5s but you may want to double check!

 

OME before toytec. Then Icon's and fox's.

 

IMO, Icon/Fox/SAW/King are pretty much on the same playing field...Bilstein 5100 is sub-par compare to those companies, which is a no brainer to go with the Fox setup especially if its cheaper. BTW, the Fox is 2.5" diameter and lifts the truck 0-3".

And just got the rear 2.5's last month and WOW!

 

I got those too, almost same shock setup but no resis up front. I mounted my rear resi to the bed, easier to drill then the frame. Next setup is camburg LT

 

How much better do the 2.5 rears perform compared to the 2's? They look SICK!

 

The icons can re rebuilt but for regular use they'll last longer than 50k. Not to mention it's cheaper to rebuild then keep buying new shocks. After a while those 5100's will need to be replaced regardless. Not to mention the 2.0, 2.5 aftermarket coilovers are 10-100x better shock then the 5100's.

 

Like butta, i had rear 5150's 12 travel shocks, and daaaaaam, does my rear soak everything up. It's like a skinny girl with a big-o butt.

 

I've never got a chance to feel the 2.0s but these 2.5s ride 10000000x better then the 5100s i had on before!
