need help on 5100 shocks

hey guys this may be a funny question but i went to the web site for Downsouth motorsports. What is the difference for the "pre load adjustable and the performance shocks" My other question is should i get new springs my truck has 124k miles, how dificult is it to change front and rear shocks

 

preload adjustable shocks basically give you lift. but its only the front that has that. Im not possitive about on a 2nd gen but it cant be much different than a 1st gen. its really easy to install

 

would i need new springs

After 124k miles of soaking up bumps in the road, they're probably sagging and showing their age. The rear leaf springs would show it much more so than the fronts since the 2nd Gen leaf pack is pretty weak. If you bottom out with little to no load, you need a new leaf pack. The coils seem to hold up a bit better.

Installing the fronts requires the use of a spring compressor. You can buy a cheap one, rent one from a local auto parts store or bring the new shock and coil to a shop and have them assemble them for you (well worth the $$ in my opinion to have them do it). The rears are very simple, unbolt old shocks, bolt in new ones, done. Don't even need a lift for the rears. I had to cut my old shocks off because the top nut was rusted on so badly I couldn't budge it. You might get lucky, dose it with PB Blaster the night before and it might come lose for you.

 

With 124K miles there is a good chance are they are sagging and worn out. Do your rear leafs smile, frown or keep a streight face?

I agree on the rears...I installed airsprings to counter the sag.
I like having adjustability.
I was really referring to the fronts.
