    Hey all,

I tried searching, but maybe I'm not hitting the key words. I may buy a VERY NICE 4WD 2001 Taco with 128k miles for $5500. It has the SR pkg. I'd really like to have the TRD options, coming from a lifted/modded Jeep Wrangler.

I don't plan on doing a lot of offroading right now, but I know me, and I know I will. So, what would the better choice be?

Buy it and lift it, add the rear locker, shocks, etc. Or, just hold out and see if I can find a TRD Taco from the jump? Everything I see in my area with the TRD package and lower miles is more than 2x the price.

Thanks for any info you can give to help make my decision. I don't mind putting an extra 4-5k into this if it's a worthwhile investment, but if it's best to get a factory TRD, then I'll keep looking.

    Mark

It's a 6cyl, automatic with double cab. Exactly what I'm looking for, minus the TRD package :(

That is a smokin' deal. If it all checks out I would go with that and put your own locker/lift/tires on it.

Definitely a scam. The add is gone now. They said they needed the cash, so I thought maybe they just wanted to get rid of it quick. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Craigslist just brings the suck these days

Thanks for the replies though. Now at least, I have an idea what I'd do if I should come across a legit deal that's too good to turn down.

o that sucks man, yea Craigslist really brings out the scammers; though u can still find some really good legit deals there so don't give up.

try searchtempest.com it searches multiple sites (craigslist/autotrader etc.) at once to make it easier for you. GL w/ your search

In case any of you want to enjoy a laugh...here's the email they sent.

    Hi there,

First of all I would like to thank you for your interest in my vehicle. This 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 runs and drives excellent. It has a 6 Cylinder - 3.4 Liter engine with a 4x4 automatic transmission. This vehicle has been extremely well maintained with a full service history. It has no leaks or drips and does not smoke at all.No dings, dents or scratches and no accidents. It is in perfect shape both inside and out. I am selling the vehicle under market value($5,600.00 total purchase price), since this is an Urgent Sale! For this transaction I want to use GOOGLE CHECKOUT because I want to provide you a fast and very secure way.I'm selling it due to the fact that my medical team was ordered to go back to Afghanistan for a 1 year contract and I won't let it go to waste in my backyard, also due to change in marriage status, (nice way of saying, due to divorce). At the moment I'm stationed at Fort Wainwright, MEDDAC Alaska making final preparations before deploying to Afghanistan.

If you are interested in purchasing the truck please get back to me as soon as possible. The truck is in Clinton, TN.Sale price is $5600.CLEAR Title.

    Best Regards,

Staff Sgt. 1st Medic Class Pamela G. Smith

That's why I didn't think it was a scam at first, but it just doesn't add up. Either way, I told him/her/it that unless I can see it and pay in cash, no deal. Hell, I'll make the 11 hour drive to TN if I have to.

Why not? If it's legit, I'll have money to make the trip and still do the mods :p

Any time a seller wants to use a 3rd party to channel YOUR $$ that is a huge RED FLAG!! Face-to-face or Paypal are really the only way to go with this type of thing.
The fact that she is in the military also throws up a RED FLAG. Often these scammers will give you a big long sob story about their situation/loss and bank on your sympathy to steal from you.

    a sad state indeed...

That is a scam 100% I deal with craigslist everyday. If it seems too good to be true, it is. If they want you to send money, scam. If they can't talk to you, scam.... I guarantee that if you send "I'll give you $10,000 cash right this second" you will not get a response... Somebody needs to start a thread where we can post craigslist post that are scams
