Said "Raptor", and it's above the Tacoma and FJ Cruiser.

    Yeah.

Considering it references the 4Runner Trail Edition which has the KDSS option, locking rear diff, A-Trac(yes I said it), Crawl Control and Multi Terrain Select. It also has the same ground clearance as the Tacoma OR and FJ Cruiser, a slight less of a approach angle and departure angle.

The 4Runner Trail is a pretty BAMF compared to the other currently offered 4x4 vehicles.

Hence the "can buy new", missed that did ya?:D

Showroom floor capability doesn't mean much in the offroad world...

They sure blew it on the FJ. Doesn't have the same fatness the 4Runner has but has all the useful goodies (except KDSS, but meh...doesn't need it) and one more off the showroom floor that's particularly key: Factory sliders that are actually sliders.

They got #1 right though. But I'm not paying that kind of money for a Chrysler product that'll become an unreliable shitpile after 80k miles.

See how much shit he can fit in his bed.

Everything is a compromise. Personally, I'd take a mid-90s LX450 over any of that stuff they mention. You can't buy 'em any more, but the Fj80 platform with a luxury interior, solid front axle, and front/rear diff locks from factory made a FORMIDABLE vehicle.

I'm hoping to score one one day with reasonably low (100kish) miles that I can turn into a trail spa.

The point is you have a versatile vehicle. He has a specialist.

Want to see someone with a home-brewed tube buggy make his Rubicon look silly?

I think some come with BFG KM1s. I'm not sure about the size.
