Great stuff!! I think the drums were just a hair to loud but everything went together pretty smooth. My fingers dont move that quick but the style is very becoming of some stuff I had done in the past.
I suck at playing but putting stuff together is so much fun.
Wish I had some time to stop by and see some of your stuff on my way home to indiana during my thxgiving shutdown.

Did you do all of it yourself?

Wow. I just posted this by mother maybelle Carter on my fbk a few months ago. One of the very first songs that I learned to play when I was like 14. Actually played it on the local bloomington indiana library cable television program.
Good on you Wheeler. One of my fav songs of all time!!!

ha, i open TW for the first time today and this thread's at the top. (which it should be more often!). . . and thanks man, yeah that was one of the first full songs i ever learned all the way through. the main reason i posted that was cause i fingerpicked the whole thing. i've been working on using all 5 fingers on the right hand and thought this song would be the best thing to learn how to do it on. if i must say, ive about got it down haha.

It's very good. I could never play it that way since I never teached myself to use my pinky. It's my weak finger. I play a couple notes then strum the chord, then a few more notes.
I appreciate all forms of music. I may not like them all (rap) but I do appreciate them.
Grew up listening to the Carters, Cash, Waylon, Willie, Buck Owens and then on to Zeppelin, Hendrix, Slayer, Kiss and so on. A very well rounded musical family.
My favorite to listen to that I cant play.....Big band 40's era jazz. Wartime stuff. Love it.

well thank you. hope you didn't mind the attempted humor at the beginning haha. im not sure why i decided to try the whole hand, ive just always felt limited with the regular 3 finger foll. . . . and yeah i was raised on all that stuff as well. while being half your age, i still have a very broad musical taste and timeline. i've been working on hendrix and zep on my electric over the past month or so and some of the deeper Merle Haggard (whom im a huge fan of) cuts have to really good finger picking and blues feels to them. Ex, the song "I Take A Lot Of Pride In What I Am" is really fun.

Just watched the vid. Nice fingerwork. Big difference from the deano version. I guess in the late 60's everything was game to the vegas performers.

on a side note. It was just a few weeks back that I heard the entire "good ole boys" theme from Waylon. Funny people don't know the part about something like "Mama there showin my hands instead of my face on tv". I had to laugh.

Thanks! After listening to it on some other setups everything seemed loud. Its all straight recordings with a few levels adjusted but no effects or much of anything else. I recorded the drums first and then went back over with the guitar. No metronome so timing sucks. Anything I record in the future will most likely have a rough drum track to start out with then go back after some pieces are on there. Its a lot easier to get dynamic with the drums when the guitar track is jamming in your ear. I even built the "studio" Im working in which is really my home office and storage area.

    Started like this:

Im using Logic 9 on a Macbook Pro, its pretty much garageband without limitations. Mics are all going through a Presonus FP10 which is 8 mic preamps and some direct ins for bass and guitar going through a firewire.

Guitar is a 90's model faded SG. Drums are early 80's Tama swingstars.

I can get to I75 in about 30 minutes.

Here's a group I play with (Brown Sugar Blues). I'm on the bass. You can't really hear it though. The guy recorded it on an iPad so it didn't really pick up the bass notes.

Decided to pick up the guitar again.. I completely forgot everything I knew 3-4 years ago.

I'm going to start off slow by learning No Quarter and Hells Bells.. My fingers are sore as hell after playing just over two hours

start slow with some G,C,D stuff like sweet home alabama. don't start bad habits, and play songs all the way through, not just the intros.

don't leave it in the case either. i've learned that if just keep your guitars on a stand or leaned up against the wall, you're 3 times more likely to play it. because when you walk by a guitar case, well all your mind thinks of is a guitar case. When you walk by a guitar on a stand you'll just snatch it up and sit down for a minute...which always turns into 30 minutes and a new song for me.

pipe in here if you ever have questions or need help. i teach some kids in the summer and even though we'll all be limited on how much we can help on the interenet, i know of some good youtube tutorials and websites that have helped me a lot over the years.

    ROCK ON!

I need to actually read up on the chords and get some practice picking and getting faster.. My fingers aren't letting me right now though. :(

well don't give up. practice and music theory are rarely satisfying at first, but once you get them down its addicting to keep learning.

ive got one of these i keep in my case that i use the most. it comes in handy sometimes, especially when i was just starting out.

    http://www.amazon.com/Planet-Waves-...J36O/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1318969800&sr=8-5

i also have a chord chart on my wall back home that i used a lot. just make sure you aren't doing cheat chords, learn them the right way, then improvise on songs when you need to.
that is to say, don't play a C and a G with your ring finger and pinky planted on the B and e string cause it's easy. learn the chords the right way first.

Consider lessons if you can. A teacher can help you get much farther, faster. I played when I was younger but let it fall away (self taught).
About 3 years ago, I started taking lessons. A good teacher usually has a plan and will make you learn things you probably didn't think about plus they can give you hints on fingerings and help you avoid bad habits.

Curious why you couldn't afford to keep it? If it only cost you $20, then sounds like a pretty good deal. Or are you saying that it was so valuable that you had to sell it to fund other ventures? Either way, awesome garage sale find!

BTW, I don't know anything about mandolins. I'm a six stringer!!
