    I just ordered the Uniden Bearcat PRO 538W CB Radio plus a 3' Fire Stick. I Will be mounting it on the Ballistic Fab Hood Hinge mount. UPS tracker says it will be here on Friday So I may have it installed over the weekend and have pictures posted soon.

    thats what i have. Great CB and i can talk all over everyone at the local meets.

    low end cobras suck but high end ones are the best. kind of like a yaris vs a lexus


    i have never seen a good midland radio. ever! most really suck

    Uniden is really good imo. the low end ones are way better than any other cheaper ones and the higher end ones are still fairly cheap and approach high dollar cobras

    Yeah I would have preferred a Cobra For simple Name recognition alone But I wanted a Small Form Radio and I didn't start seeing good reviews until you got into the big bulky ones. I'm pretty Sure this Uniden will take care of me just fine. The Only thing bothering me is where will I find someone to tune the antenna with a swr meter. I don't want to buy one myself and its not like you see advertisements on the daily talking about servicing CB radios.

    i bought an swr meter because you should check it every few months. they are usually only $10-$15

    I agree. They are pretty cheap and easy to use. I have mine connected to my base station at home and it's there when I need to do a periodic check on my mobile setup.

    I've really enjoyed my Cobra 19. A few features I wish I had, but I'm plenty strong and it fits. If it wasn't for space concerns, sure, a bigger unit might have been my choice.


    In 2003, Top Gear thought the Yaris was pretty good :p

    I need one too but I can't find one around here. Radioslack doesn't have them. They seem to stop stocking anything that isn't a cell phone around here.

    eh bacause CBs suck. I just keep mine because alot of people i wheel with still have them

    HAM/2m is where its at...

    Wheeling is the whole reason I bought one. I don't expect to have long lasting educational experiences with insightful and inspiring conversations on it.
    Just getting it setup for my first trail meet next month :)

    ETA: How do you guys route the coax into the cab?

    yea... youll notice that the serious wheelers use ham. ive just gotten into it. a good ham will get out 30-40 miles and through a repeater you can get 100+ miles. And if you have 10m you could talk to europe from cali with the right conditions.

    you can also bounce your signal off the moon. really amazing stuff. cb is line of site HAM could save your life.

    Yeah I know. I was researching the HAM FCC regulations while shopping for CB equipment on Amazon. I'll probably get into it but it won't do me any good if the group I ride with uses CB so I pushed it out 'till next year.

    Get a 10M and convert it to hit 11M (CB). Then you have the best of both worlds.

    I'm not gonna be wheelin with people 30-40 miles away so I just cheaped out and went with cobra 75 and wilson 3fgt 3ft whip with the 90 degree folding quick release. I'll go HAM if I go to south america or the arctic somewhere and the on star won't reach and need a tow or somethin. Not needing thiefs targeting my truck so they can chat with buddies from their homelands halfway around the globe either...but that's just me.

    your a prerunner you wouldnt understand...:devil:

    i wheel alone 60% of the time so having something that will get out further than a cb or even a cell phone at times is well worth $150. great for camping too.

    Example: theres no cell coverage in the mountains here so no cell phone. One of the guys camping went to the local store and we hit him on 2m to pick up some ice for the rest of us. or in an emergency you can get help where cb is blocked by the next hill...

    you can also hit other guys who are heading to the meet from a distance via a repeater if you cant get their cell phone.

    Here's what you don't understand...If I had that much of a use for a 4wd or had wanted 4wd it'd be in the garage. I can get by doing what I want where I want & when I want with a prerunner. I do understand. :D

    Lol you tell 'em. Some of us are just social butterflys as it were. I choose my hobbies based on the opportunity to meet new people I ride motorcycles because I like to go on rides with groups of people. If I'm going off roading I'm going to go with a group of people. A cb is all I need. I'm not planning on going out on my own and wind up stranded needing a ham radio to try and find help.
