LED Hood Scoop Mod

this makes me want a hood scoop lol

 

Well if it's what you do, why are you complaining? I don't go to work everyday complaining.

You can't be there to stop all the butt hurt. It's the Internet. People give their opinions. Some agree, some don't.

 

But I can be here to stop a thread from going down the drain. And I didn't complain...I made a joke.
If you want to continue making a scene-I'll suggest PM's cause I already said...This one is on topic or bans are coming.

That worked pretty good. BTW, from the video, it looks like your high beams are set too high (you're lighting up the tree tops).

 

i hope that it would only be used for offroad anyways so being street legal wouldnt apply.

 

In some states, off road lights have to be covered when driving on the road. My guess is he would get away with it since it's not obvious.

 

Thanks everyone for the interest. I didn't realize I need to have the write up done before posting... But I'm new here.

I need to take a couple more photos of the wiring and switch and finish up the write up. Overall the mod was very easy, but you still get the weird feeling when you take a hacksaw to part of your truck.

Some folks said it was way too much money for the LED vs HID or other lights, couple comments on that: Yes they are way too expensive... But... this light is 1.5" x 10". If you can find another light in that form factor that puts out that much light and is cheaper and won't melt through my hood I'll gladly upgrade. Oh ya, they also use less power and the LED should NEVER burn out. Install and forget about it. I love it.

The build quality on these lights is fantastic (i feel like I should be getting a kickback for advertising! ).

I looked at their 'E' series lights, but didn't want to cut up the front grill to mount them, and it seemed wrong to mount them behind the grill (for an offroad light I didn't want anything lowering the light output).

For the dash switch i long debated what to use. My first thought was to buy another fog light switch (I like the push button), but in the event someone else was driving my truck I didn't want them to use the "wrong" fog lights. I ended up with a very simple rocker switch that I bought from a surplus store for $2.

Rigid Industries ships with all the wiring you need and switches (they come with a small round rocker switch, but I didn't think it would look good in the dash). All the wiring comes in plastic shielding. For under the hood I used small electrical sticky pads (1"x1") that you can attach the cable too with zip ties (probably another $10 there). Otherwise it was a few butt connectors, heat shrink tubing, and a couple nuts and bolts. (this will all be in the writeup).
