FWIW, those pics of busted shocks weren't all the result of hard off roading. A 3" top plate is pretty tall and can lead to a broken strut just by hitting a big, unexpected pot hole. A lot of people here don't like spacer lifts for good reason and we're just trying to save you an expensive repair bill. Good luck with your lift!

Pretty damn close. Eibach's give you 1.6" of lift, set them on 5100's at .85 and you're at a total of about 2.5". There is also a kit that comes with Eibach coils, 5100's and a thicker top plate that will give you a true 3" lift.
Here's a link to all the parts you'd need.
Also, Toytec is a member here and offers fellow members a discount. Not sure if it's still valid, I believe they cycle through discount codes.
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/toytec-lifts/95119-toytec-tacoma-world-discount-code.html

Without the discount and shipping, Eibachs are $150, 5100's are $200, and the assembled 3" kit is $550 but comes pre assembled so you don't have to mess with a spring compressor or and comes with new top plates so you don't have to re-use your old ones.

I don't know about the aftermarket wheels your running but there would be no rubbing in stock configuration so, assuming your setup is similar, no rubbing for you either depending on the tire size.

Just laying out all his options for him and showing him how to get to his original 3" of lift. You never know, some people are set on a true 3". You're right though, not cost effective...

Get Eibachs from Toytec and I believe Downsouth Motorsports is the cheapest for 5100's.

Of course I read all of this AFTER I pay $140 on a two inch toytec leveling kit. I guess I have to go back to selling blood and semen to get those 5100's... Damn.
