Do you really need A-TRAC if you have a Locker

but yes.
a-trac is very helpful offroad, used it in the 2010 often.
both have their ups and downs

 

It probably will now that you had to say something...

 

It depends what you are doing with your truck. Not many people need A-TRAC. A-TRAC is a cheaper option than putting a locker in the front differential.

It all boils down to what you are trying to do with the truck.

 

Think of a rear locker as true 3 wheel drive. At any one time if you're locked, you absolutely have power going to 3 wheels at the very least.

2wd is really 1wd, 4wd is 2wd, and conversely locked front and rear is absolute 4wd.

 

I have offroaded much more than you, and in my ridiculously immense experience A-TRAC is as good as a locker when your offroading offroad. because offroad is where I have mucho experience because I offroad a lot and am very smart. And I offroad a lot.

And I OFFROAD!

 

This requires the user to know when they should and shouldn't be locked though. If you're locked when you shouldn't be, you could end up doing a lot of damage. A-TRAC is kinda like lockers for dummies for lack of a better phrase since it uses the brakes to mimic a locker.

For the OP:

"Need" is always an interesting word. It's nice to have some kind of front traction aid along with the rear locker. A-TRAC is among the better ones out there. I'd say it's better than everything but a true selectable front locker.

You couldn't have said it better. Know when to use it, know when not to. But then again, don't know anyone who has broken a STOCK CV on a 05+ that's locked in the front. They are much stronger than the first gen. They are the equivalent to a Dana 44 in the front. But to each his own. Not everybody needs a front locker, and not everybody needs A-Trac. It depends on what you are gonna do with the truck
