He got it installed at Best Buy so I don't doubt that. They blamed the unit and the support for the unit. Only works like a regular starter still.

from what i read the best buy stall install team differs from each of it stores with some more knowledgeable on alarms to stereo systems and some not having a clue but i wouldn't count it out just cause its a best buy

it could be both or the system itself or installation error

I'd defiantly get the window module and set it so that they rolled up when you arm the alarm.

I have the Viper installed in my truck as well. I have the main unit, the Smart Start module, and two window modules. Installed it was a little under $1300.

The window modules are great. Summer time I can start the truck and roll all the windows down before I get to it. The modules also got me one touch up and down from inside the cab for all 4 windows as well as lock the truck and all of the windows close too. Kind of expensive but my taco deserves it ;)

The smart start module actually has a cell phone receiver inside. So the phone app will only work where the truck (and the phone) has a cell signal. Inside parking garages and such it does not work.

I bought the Viper 5701 Refurbed for $89.99 with one 2-way remote and one 1-way. I had to get the extra key bypass module and the window roll down for the front. Got hooked up for both boxes so they were cheap. And had my friend install. Spent less than $300 for the entire setup! He did warn me that the window roll up can be bad after long term use, as the module keeps trying to roll the window up for a bit after it's already maxed out. Which may or may not hurt the window motor. But I left it for now.

And yes I use remote start almost everyday. the problem is I get in and forget to stick the key in or turn it on all the way, touch the brake and shut the truck back off, lol

Yea some parking garages you can still get a cell signal - there are quite a few here in DC that I have no issue with

Been there done that (both things)!!! I did it so many times I thought I was going to ruin the starter plus as cool as it is to start your truck as you walk up to it, it is that much not-cool to grind the starter after you get in LOL.

I had a relay (or something like that) added by the installer recently that made it not grind the starter with the key when it was already running. Have not come up with a solution for cutting it off with the brake nor do I want to fix that - 44 years old is too young to have such bad short term memory and I need the practice :)

Not trying to hijack, but can yall give me some recommendations for a REASONABLY priced remote start? I dont want the pep boys style mickey mouse alarm system on all the ricers. Just remote start, lock, unlock, panic? DO they sell any that still maintain the factory panic?
