    I just called about this 86 4runner
    http://lawton.craigslist.org/cto/2669214494.html

says it was the turbo 6cy but they swapped it to the 22re but it has an auto tranny.

    any thoughts?

im waiting on pics of the inside. he said he would get them to me tonight or tomorrow.

maybe. I know he said it had a turbo and they swapped it out for the 22re. He says the seats say turbo and it has the altimiter and digital gauges.

gotcha. well regardless it has the 22re in it now but i still has the auto tranny and ive heard mixed feelings about it. I wouldnt be doing any crawling or hardcore wheeling with this. mostly just for the deer lease and snowy road driving.

The auto tranny in the 1st gens are fine. You shouldn't have any issues with it and the previous motor was a 22rte.

The 4runner looks clean to me and you could probably get him down a bit. Ask him when the timing chain has been replaced and if the head gaskets have ever been replaced. Too bad it still doesn't have the 22rte.

he said that it was his wifes and she was the one that drove it. he didnt know about the timing chain. he did say that it has a new altenator, new tires, and new brakes. he ordered a new tail light for the broken one and will put in a new battery.

he said all the power locks and windows work but the interior is a little beat up. should i wait for pics of the interior or just say screw it and buy it!? haha

Your 4runner is awesome! If Toyota made a 4runner just like that one today I would buy it in a second.

Can I ask how much you got in trouble for taking her rig and getting it muddy? If she let you, then you've got the best wife ever. WAIT! Who's gonna wash it? If she is, then you've got the best wife ever!

I wouldn't say too bad. The 22rte is a bit of a problem child and doesn't make much more power in its stock form

That makes a crowd. I'm trying to get rid of my 1982 4x4 project because of those. I've paid for it but by the time I get the money to do mods they won't be making parts for it anymore. :(

Damn. That's some serious bucks for that kit. I got a full assembled long block for $1300 with a 7 year/100K warranty. Even though I installed it myself.
