i only suggested leaving if she is unwilling to change or make an effort.

and no dont expect her to change over night, she didnt get that way over night.

and yes im a chick, im not saying it should be over by her being on her own, just an eyeopener, it helped with me, if you dont learn to manage your money then you dont have a place to live and it puts your priorities in line. i had job that if i was short on money i could pick up as many shifts as i needed to cover it. and her getting her own place isnt the "i need space, getting my own place" its the learning a life lesson getting your own place...im not totally suggesting this though since that is usually the outcome and most females dont think like me and take it differently.

you know your girl better than any of us and would know better how to help her with the situation, take some ideas put them together and make your own solution to it. give her a budget. or one thing that helped me was to write out all my funds on paper of what i made, how much bills were, an approximation of what i should try to save and how much would be extra spending money.

i can give you advice but you have to use your deductive reasoning to see if it apply's to your situation or not.

a famous comedian once said when women have to go into their own purse it dries things up get what i'm saying :) if i where in your situation i would lie and say i have less money than i actually do and keep things close money wise also understand that she is one of those chicks that is going to act this way.

so remember that before sitting down for this talk with her. when you talk to women about money it usually never works out good from personal experience. so i would save my breath and watch my own finances plan out what ou guy's need to spend and whats left - an acceptable amount of spending money for her:rolleyes: then the rest is yours.

it sounds like in a few years she will be working and able to either contribute to paying bills or leave you becuase your the guy who supported her through school. i had a chick do me like that so it's not uncommon  but, some women truly think and operate on a different level than men do.

good luck your the man take control of this shit now before you marry her.

take the card away from her and keep it, if she needs it she needs to give you a valid excuse for needing it until she learns to control her spending and you need to not bail her out so much, still be there for her but your making her dependent on your and your not helping the situation. dont let her know your there to bail her out as much either, let her feel the stress of not being able to pay her bills if she has any. she has a spending problem by the sounds of it.

If nothing else, the ring on her finger should be enough proof to her that you are there for her, and you are in it for the long-haul.

^^ Nope. That ring, as much as females don't want to see it that way, is just temporary. It's gonna come off no matter what. If things go well, it will be replaced with a wedding band, but THAT's not a given ...

Really? Lie to her? I'm sorry but this is about the worst advice that has been offered yet. Lying will help no one and will only hurt the relationship.

I would really consider this relationship. She is not taking responsibility for her finances seriously. Give her Dave Ramsey's book, she if she is able to take charge of her finances, with the ideas in the book. If she does put forth effort in this area, you might want to consider ending the relationship, it could get you in a lot of trouble down the road.

    I agree.

I have a second suggestion. In addition to showing her how both of you benefit from sound financial management; why not offer to go to a financial planning class or make an appointment with a financial planner together?

I also believe that you need express how difficult it is for you to be in the position you are (obviously, it is or you wouldn't be asking for advice) and that it cannot continue but with efforts on both parts, you can work it out. I guess express that you both are in this together.

I know you're not married yet but coming to some agreement about how to manage your finances together will go a long way in how you both deal with the other challenges a marriage brings.

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt.

Now it is time to sit down and do planning and budgeting. Figure out how much you have, where is it going and how much spending money is left over. If you don't fix this now, your life will be hell.

X2-remember the old saying: a fool and their money are soon parted. most people eventually figure this out. some never do. money issues can really cause a lot of stress. always pay bills first, and never rack up credit card debt that can't be paid in full. a deep hole is very hard to get out of.
