can i over steer when on 4x4.. question???

i just turn my cars knob to 4x4 everything was fine until i tried to park, ass i turn my car fully steer to one direction i notice that the car moves really slowly as i press on the gas as if it is rubbing on something but its not...i was thing maybe because all wheels cant move independently so when u over steer it will not work as well becuase the inside wheel wants to rotate slower than the outside.. right????

 

no 4x4 on dry roads, read the manual in the 4x4 section and it will tell you everything about when and how to use it properly.

 

Don't use 4x4 on pavement or any surface with no slip

 

were you on pavement when you engaged 4x4?

 

dont do that, this truck does not have full time 4wd so there is no differential in the transfer case. This means that even though the front and rear tires must rotate at different rates while turning, they cant because they are locked together via the transfer case. You probably didn't do any damage this time but if you try it again you could break the transfer case - $$$$$$$-.

Also, its a truck, not a car.

personally I don't turn on my 4 wheel drive until I feel like I'm two feet from getting stuck with just my 2 wheel drive..

there are also alot of people on here who preach to never, ever use 4 wheel drive on dry pavement, and for good reason. you'll break your shit bro..

 

there is absolutely no reason to use it on dry pavement, or even wet pavement for that matter.

The only time I use it on pavement is at the boat ramp, and thats because I want low range. Stupid automatic locking hubs...

yeah don't turn that knob till you can't see pavement anymore becuase of snow pack.

yeah even if it is wet, slick, snowy, only use it when absolutely necessary. if you're getting along with 2wd, then you only need 2wd

Only use the 4WD system while off road or on snow/ice. The tires need slippage during turns or you'll bind up. Read the links below...

 

Even when you are in soft dirt, the front end binds in 4 wheel drive when you max out the steering in either direction. Only way to avoid this is to take hard turns wider, turn off 4 wheel, or use a three point turn. I've had the front end bind off-road when I forgot about maxing the steering out when going around a corner.
