clockspring went out, where can i find one?

So my clockspring went out and i need a new one. Ive heard them called air bag clock spring / spiral cable / or srs reel - it allows you to turn your steering wheel with out crossing the wires for the horn and air bag.
so I am searching for one online or junk yards. either way i am not finding them under $350, please someone help ... I'm willing to get one shipped if i can find one, the sooner the better. - MY cable is BEYOND FIXING i need a new one!

I had to replace the clockspring on a Dodge Dakota not too long ago. The word that I got when looking for a replacement was that there are liability issues with them because of the airbag? and that junk dealers are hesitant to sell them. Autozone etc sells replacements for some vehicles but not the one that I needed at the time. I assume you have tried those places. I ended up at the dealer and paid a little over $200. I am finding that Toyota stuff is a bit more expensive but a lot better quality wise.

 

dang man there was a guy that was selling a clock spring on KSL not to long ago. i just checked but its not there anymore :/

 

did search for toyota clock spring and found the cheapest was discount toyota parts at $199.46 and I think shipping was free, as I think I need one also

 

i bought one from this toyota junk yard in colorado for $150, next day went to my buddys house his dad is a mechanic some how pulled a toyota tacoma clockspring outta his butt and handed it and said here ... right after i just bought the other one .... I'll sell you the one i never touched for $100 interested ?

 

After a month of the airbag light glaring at me, knowing mostly from this forum that it was likely an expensive clockspring repair, I checked the code with the paperclip and confirmed code 51. I needed an alignment anyway so I had the dealership do that and bugged the service and parts guys a little for some "good will" on costs for replacing the cable but no luck - off warranty at 156000 km so $465.00 (!!!!) for the part, $110.00 labour, and $70.00 to read the codes, plus taxes. I bemoaned it being a common problem, but interestingly the parts guy, it seemed honestly, told me he really hadn't seen many clocksprings go through the shop.
Thanks for excellent postings here I am taking on replacing it myself, and found a new matching 06 base model clockspring on ebay.ca for $260.00 shipped no taxes.
Looking forward to turning off that dash light and protecting my vehicle occupants. And when the snow tires go on soon the tire pressure light can be untaped as well.

 

Airbag light out. 45 min. work in my driveway and saved about $400 by doing it myself rather than the dealership. TW rocks!

 

My light came on as well. I was getting the code 51. I pulled the clockspring and tested the continuity on the four wires from the two airbag connectors to the connection that the wiring harness plugs into. I had one wire that had no connectivity. I had found a few companies on e-bay that repair the Tacoma clocksprings. I sent an e-mail and the confirmed their service would take care of my problem. I shipped it off to them (yes you can drive without it. No horn or cruise and your turn signals will not self cancel) Monday. I received it today, installed it and problem solved. Total cost $51 shipped. I couldn't see putting a used one in since it looks like they wear out.

I'd highly recommend this route if your light is on.
