How fast were you going? Our manual goes up to 65mph in 4th.

Did you purposely have it in 4th, or did your automatic transmission stick in 4th?

I did the same thing when the truck was new. I probably drove farther than you did. Then I discovered why I was getting poor gas mileage. LOL. I have almost 36000 on it now and no problems. I think if you drove under 70mph you are probably alright.

You didnt hurt anything, 'cept your gas millage.

And even on the rev limiter! :) I treated my first gen like it was a diesel when off roading. Foot to the floor, letting the rev limiter keep the RPM's in check.

You had O/D Off? I've driven around 100 in 4th without a tow package. If you have the Tow Package you should be alright because you have the trans cooler. You should be alright.

2nd gens dont have an OD on/off button. They have 4th gear, then "D" (5th, also known in some circles as "Over Drive").

I am in far north Austin off of 620. Mainley go to the work and home. To the lake for fishing or to Mason for hunting. Went to Cabelas this morning. I have a ton of stuff changed on the Tacoma now, so it looks a little different.

So, when pulling a trailer (such as my boat), I should be in 4th? That's what I've been doing, but wanted to be sure I was doing right.

You dont have to be in 4th. If it holds 5th, then keep it there. I only go into 4th if the tranny tries to "hunt" between gears. I tow my boat (3000#) in 5th all the time.

x2 my 1st gen 3.4 V6 will stay in 5th for the most part of my trips to where I land it usually flat interstates and back roads. When it starts shifting up and down and won't stay in a gear that when you turn O/D off, or take it out of D in the case of 2nd gens, as to not over work the trans.

Reminds me of my 2005 the first day I had it (after trading in my 2001 for it). I took it to Baja the very night I got it, and the '01 had a 4 speed auto... I didn't know the '05 had a 5 speed auto. When I saw 4 and D next to each other on the display, I didn't know there was another gear 'under' the D! I drove over 200 miles the day I got my '05, at highway speed... and it was so smooth and nice in 4th gear, I didn't give it a second thought! The next day I thumbed through the owner's manual and had a Homer Simpson moment... "DOH"!! When you see that there is an L and 2 next to each other (and no '1')... that helps too!
