Regret after getting the rear tsb done?

Has anyone had the rear tsb performed and regretted it?

I had a 2008 dbl lb and had it done. I remembered it being rougher but not too bad. I've traded it in and now have a 2011 dbl lb trd 4X4. I'm really like the way it rides now. I've only loaded it down once or twice but considering getting the tsb done again. But, because I'm really liking the way it rides now, I'm hesitant to get it done again. Comments/Opinions?

 

If your new truck is fine, why bother? I'd leave it alone then. Lots of folks are saying the TSB springs are crap anyway & there are better alternatives out there. In my case, having the TSB done on my 08 Prerunner made the ride firmer & I really like it. However after 7 months, the ride has gone a little softer. I have no regrets having it done.

 

don't get it done if you don't planning on hauling, towing or putting a cap on it. Otherwise, I'd say get it done. I had mine done because I had hauling issues when picking up some floor tile and had to make 2 trips because it was way close to the bump stop while at rest. I really didn't notice a difference in the ride, if anything I thought it felt better. Just my.02

 

It was a no-brainer for me. Having the truck bottom out with 300# in the bed was simply unacceptable. If the truck handles everything you need it to haul, don't bother, if not, I don't see why you wouldn't get it done.

 

Like the others guys said, if you dont plan on packing stuff around a lot then just leave it. Another idea is you can get the TSB done, then get some 5100's and raise up your front end a little and give it that more aggressive look!!

 

If you don't plan on regularly towing or carrying heavy loads in the bed I say stay with what you have. if you do camp or camp and wheel at the same time, I recommend doing it. I was a bit hesitant because I didn't want a stiffer ride. I was amazed how little it changed the ride of the truck. Very useful when you are loading your camping gear and plan to wheel with it back there.

 

I chose not to do it because I like the stock ride and I haven't run into issues with loading all my camping gear which easily exceeds 300 lbs. If I ever do have issues with loading, I'll go with an airbag suspension so I can supplement as needed rather than firmer springs.

 

I heard bad things about it so I skipped it and got Dakars.

 

I've had my TSB springs for 4 years now with no regrets.

I love the fact that I don't have to worry - no matter what I tow/haul. Handles a full scoop of mulch with very minimal sag. It's a truck.......its gonna ride rough (or it aint a truck!)

 

I got rid of my boat so don't really tow anymore. And, I only load corn feed during hunting season. Other than that, it's pretty much weekend home depot crap so maybe I'll just stick with what I got now. Thanks everyone for your comments.

 

Can anyone post up the TSB details here? I've been hearing a lot about the rear spring issue, but searches bring up forum posts, not any official info.

I guess so. I was thinking it would be packaged differently. So, count your springs, and if 3, take it in to get weight-tested and see what both factory and extended warranties say?

I'm okay with a stiff ride, as long as the extra stiffness isn't jarring anything else a part. I've seen issues with beds "clunking" while going over bumps, any relation to the new 4-leaf springs?

 

No, if you have no need for the TSB, then don't waste your time bringing in your truck. The TSB is to fix a specific problem that some of the models are having. A lot of people are just fine with their standard 3 leaf pack and never get the TSB done. A TSB is a means for a technician to diagnose and fix a particular problem, it's not a recall or a means to get new parts for free. If you're experiencing your truck bottoming out frequently with just a light load in the bed, then take it in. The leaf spring TSB is covered under the 3 yr 36k mile warranty.

I'm not familiar with the bed 'clunk' issue but again, if you're not having that problem, don't worry about it. There's a long list of TSB's and I think I've only had one that actually applied to my truck.

If you want a smooth ride, you should have bought a car. This falls under the same premise as the, "why does my truck get bad gas mileage" threads.

 

I have a non TRD model truck so it was an upgrade with the new springs and TRD shocks, plus another free alignment. Even though I do not haul much, (hence the reason I am driving a Tacoma), I did it to have a firmer set of springs "just in case". I barely noticed any difference in ride quality, it just felt firmer like any truck feels after you replaced the stock shocks with quality HD shocks. Some say they are junk, but they are no worse then the stock springs, actually better for most who use their trucks, so it was a no brainer for me since it was free.
