I'd have to say that I really like the Entune/Navi/stereo!! The sound is excellent (HD radio channels are nice and crisp) and the sub sounds good.

Sorry folks, but I think the new front end is fugly!!! :puke:
It makes the truck look like a Mitsubishi or big goofy looking fish -- especially the photos on the Toyota website.

Picked up my new 2012 this weekend however I have a few concerns with the truck. First and most importantly, it looks like it is severely overfilled with engine oil. I drove it home and then checked the oil in the morning (should have checked it before leaving the dealership I guess). I checked it a few times, each time wiping the dipstick clean. Anyone else run into something like this? Seems really strange to be overfilled from the factory.

Problem is I live a really long ways from any Toyota dealers.

My other concern is that once I'm over ~40-45mph I can hear a really high pitched noise. Not sure where its coming from, although I know old radio antenna sometimes made similar sound until they started to add the twist to the outside of the antenna. Any ideas, besides turning my radio louder?

    Thanks in advance

    I haven't had any oil issues.....granted I haven't checked it yet.

I've experienced the whistling you're talking about. I'm not sure if its the windshield, hood scoop, antenna, combo of both, etc. but it is kind of annoying. That's the first thing the wife pointed out on her first drive. My friends '05 Off road did the same thing.

Have you noticed how the seats sit higher?.........that's my biggest complaint!!

Didn't notice the seat sitting higher, however I haven't been in an earlier 2nd gen. before. I wish I could adjust the seat base to tilt forward and back like some other Toyota models.

The whistling is super annoying, I even notice it with the radio on (low of course). I would really like to get it fixed, anyone else have the same problem and a way to correct it?

Sounds like the same truck! No e-tune/navi here.

I agree that the front end looks better on the previous body style, however, I like the interior way better on the 2012. I can't stand the silver plastic dash around the radio, or the steering wheel/sifter nob. I kept going back and forth between getting a 2011 and 2012, and eventually decided that since I have to look at the interior components while driving it I'd go with the 2012. Either way they are all great looking trucks, and everyone has their own opinion on what looks good

I also have an annoying whistle....was going to ask the dealership about it today actually. Wanted to check if it was a problem with other trucks and if there was any TSB on it.

Speaking of TSB are there any out there that would apply to the 2012 that I should be looking into?

I also noticed that the seats sit high, but so did the new Nissan truck I test drove. There were still 2011 trucks on the lots but the blue tooth pushed me over to getting the 12. Now I have to listen for that whistle :).

Talked to the dealer today, they eluded that it might be the windshield. I'll keep you posted.

Also, for those who are looking to purchase Weather Tech's for your 2012 Tacoma they don't offer them yet.

The Weather Tech floor liners for the 2011 Tacoma won't work with the new retention knobs for the 2012.

Please if you're interested or if you would like to help. Request floor liners for the weather techs through their website: http://www.weathertech.com/service/a...onrequest.aspx

Hopefully if a bunch of us request the new floor liners for 2012 Tacoma they will expedite a new design to work with the factory retention system.

Personally, I'm not at all impressed with the all weather rubber mats that came with the truck.

I have the same issue. There is a TSB for this. At the top of your windshield there is small 'gutter' in the weather strip. The sound you hear is air blowing over this depression and creating a whistling sound.

The TSB 'fix' is for them to fill the gutter with a bead of clear silicone. Seems kind of stupid to take it to the dealer to get that done. You can easily do it yourself.

Well, I spent about 45 minutes looking over a few 2012's at one of the local dealerships near the car wash that I go to.

My feelings are exactly the same as they have been since the beginning - interior kicks ass, exterior is decent.

My biggest complaint about the exterior is the way the front bumper "flares" and fender well mesh...or lack thereof. This pic shows the lines I'm talking about...

The bumper flare is way too angular compared to the perfectly rounded fender well/flare.

Also, they really should have kept the BHML on the 2012's. That was honestly the biggest thing that stuck out between the 2011 and 2012 that I was comparing (both super white, both TRD Sport).

I wasn't able to sit in side the 2012 (I never go to dealerships during business hours) but I was able to see through the window and the interior definitely looks awesome. Very nice refresh.

Overall, I am happy with my 2011 as I like the BHLM and body lines better, but I do wish I could swap in the interior of the 2012.

Just FYI - that TSB is not even updated for the 2011's yet.

I have a case open with Toyota regarding the issue, as my 2011 did it about a month ago when going around 70mph with a very strong headwind. I have not done anything about it as I made a trip to Tampa (1.5hrs each way) last weekend and it never made a peep; I am hoping it just went away on its own and I won't have to deal with it again.

it will be back. Mine comes and goes, depending on how hard the wind is blowing and which direction. For me, it's worse, if i'm driving on the highway and I have a crosswind. I don't even think about it when I'm in the city, but a soon as I head to the deer lease, it drives me crazy. lol

I tested it on the way to Tampa, went all the way up to 85mph with a decent wind and it didn't make a sound.

If it comes back, I'll be heading straight to Toyota. Toyota Corporate said to have the dealer look at it, and call them back so they can add the Work Order Number to the case so they can investigate the issue further.

I would post up on Toyota USA's Facebook Wall and tell them about it, they will probably assign you a case number, and you can do the same thing I'm doing.

Just FYI, my 2010 has that same whistle noise, they even replaced the windshield and it's still there. I think it's the door seals... if I pull in on them hard when it starts, it cuts down drastically. With a passenger we got it to stop almost entirely by doing that.

Great info dude! Toyota said this was an option. I was nervous at the thought of a glass company ripping out the brand new factory windshield (brand new because my truck is brand new) and putting it back in. I was worried this would just cause more issues.

+1 rep for you my friend.

    Good info.

Crazy that Toyota wouldn't have figured out how to permanently correct this issue by now. Seems like a lot of people have had this issue and Toyota has been aware of the issue from at least the 2005's.

Here is what I think about the new grill.

The new update on the tacoma 2012 is the 2001-2004 version of the second gen, It will stand for 4 years, and then they will rebuild the platform i'm pretty sure...

Well it looks like I may actually be getting my taco soon. My current car is going downhill fast and I've got to make sure I have a working vehicle. So I've secured a loan and been haggling with several dealers through email over the past few days.

Looks like my new taco will be a 2012, DCSB, 4x4, Pyrite Mica (YESS!!) SR5 with tow package, All weather mats (are these comparable to weathertechs? y/n?) and tube steps. Although I'm not really interested in the tube steps... but this truck has them so oh well. I'm getting quotes at right around invoice! I'm pretty excited :p
