What to do!

Hey guys,

So, when I got my tacoma a couple weeks ago the front drivers side fender flare (the smaller piece attached to the bumper, not the one on the fender) as well as the rear passengers fender flare were scratched. The little piece was scratched noticeably bad, and the back one is barely even scratched... it may even come out with Back to Black. So, I contacted the stealership, and after tons of going back and forth they said they would either replace the fender flares OR give me 700 bucks towards the 1200 tonneau cover I want. What would you guys do? It's about 150 bucks if I want to replace that small, noticeably scratched piece myself... Or would I be better off to just get them replaced now and save for a tonneau cover later.

Opinions appreciatedddd!! I am pretty meticulous about my truck, so it does kinda bug me that the piece is scratched. But I don't want to make a dumb deal when I could possibly get a better one.

 

Get the tonneau. Get rid of the mud flaps, at least the front ones. They will rip off eventually.

 

Get the tonneau cover with the $700 discount, and then replace the stuff yourself afterwards.

Its the Fender flares that are damaged, not the mud flaps. is your opinion still the same?

 

It's just one full fender flare that has scratches and then one of the small trim pieces on the bumper, right?

Either way - $700 discount on a tonneau cover is plenty to cover the scratches. Use that, and then spend a little bit to the flares/trim piece fixed.

I should also ad, I have the black unpainted fender flares on my truck... So it's not as noticeable as it would be if they were painted.

 

Definitely take the tonneau cover discount then.

Worry about the scratches later.

Yeah the one trim piece is the one that is scratched, the back one is barely even worth mentioning... it's more like markings... You can't feel them with your finger... That's why I was saying back to black might take care of that

I'm impressed they are willing to give you such a big discount on the tonneau cover just for that small piece being scratched.

Well, the only reason they are doing it is because the back piece would cost them about 500 to replace, and the front is 150... and I made a huge stink because the original sales manager basically told me to F off when he saw the scratches. So I called the GM and told him I would be doing everything in my power to make sure that no one went to his stealership again.

I originally wanted 700 off the tonneau AND that small piece replaced, but he wouldn't go for it.

Heard much about it? I know someone with one... Seems pretty legit, but a little worried about the functionality of a hard tri-folding one. It seems really good quality though. But it's 1036+ 12% HST (freakin' BC) which = 1160. I have to pay 500 of it.

 

Are you sure that's a Genuine Toyota product? I've never seen it listed on their site or in their catalogs?

Yep it's listed on their site. If you go to the toyota website, then build a 2011 tacoma DC LB, then look at the exterior accessories it lists a "Tonneau Cover, folding, hard" Then click on the zoom button and it will pop up.

Have a look and let me know what you think about the tonneau

 

definitely get the cover. when i bought my truck it had a big ass dent in the top of the roof, a 7 in crack in the windshield, and both the headlights hold water (of course i noticed all of this after i drove off the lot) and they told me tough shit and wouldn't touch it...besides it's a truck and it is going to get scratched up lol

Either way, I think the cover is a good idea. You're getting more bang for you buck going that route anyway.

You could always sell it for way more than you're going to end up paying for it. I always use this as a gauge of how good the deal is.

Holy Sh*t dude, you bought your truck brand new? I would have been right pissed! I can't believe that.

It's going to get scratched, but there is just something about putting the first scratch on my truck myself, rather then the dealership doing it for me ha.

 

Yeah, true that. I actually want a tonneau though, so hopefully this one will be good. I was previously thinkin' of getting a roll n' lock. But they are just so expensive.

 

Those black fenders scratch for anything... I'd just leave it.

 

THANK YOU!!! I have been pm'ing and asking everyone if those things scratch pretty easily or not... and didn't hear from anyone. The only threads I did find said they didn't scratch easily at all... So, that's why I was thinking about having them replaced. But there is no point if they will just scratch again.

When I had my PreRunner, mine were scratched and I couldn't figure out how. I am assuming shopping carts at the grocery stores... All I know is that I didn't do it. It's definitely not hardcore plastic.
