What Octane Gas Does Everyone Use?

During the day thats the norm, at night you might find as low as 93ish but thats about it for now...In the height of when it was really bad a few months back we were paying 1.50-1.55 a liter, now that was scary lol

 

I know the LS1 in my 02 WS6 T/A uses knock sensors. Not sure if Taco's 4.0 does or not, but I would think it does.

 

Never had any issues using 87 myself. Neither has my dad, and he's got about 80k on his. It's not exactly like it's a performance engine in these, on my vr4 and g35 I used 91 (best we have in mass here)... but on that taco... meh.

 

A knock sensor can retard timing to stop knocking from premature, compression-triggered, detonation.. but can it advance for a higher octane fuel?

 

I run 87, just because unless you're going to be doing some extreme stuff, that's all it needs. Remember that over the lifespan of an engine it may require higher octane to keep it performing like it did when it new or near new. I figure if I run higher octane now, I'm setting myself up for failure later on when it needs more octane and I can't get it at the pump.... My $.02. But for the record, I think I'll try a tank of 89 to see if I can tell the difference when I return from my deployment fighting piracy. I haven't driven the truck since September!
