    Just to bump this up...

How would I go about recalibrating the ODO so that it gives me an accurate reading, if that's even possible?

If you have a MT - You can change the worm gear on the back of the transmission.

If you have a AT - Get a OBDII reader and calibrate it unless you want to do somthing complicated... You can install a worm gear from a 1st or 2nd gen in the AT trans, they have the spot plugged. Pull out the plug and install the worm gear assembly. Then you have to splice the sender into the ABS unit so the computer will read the speed correctly. Wyatt did this a long time ago w/ his rig. A bunch of us looked and we all have the plug, I forget why I didnt do it.

Re-gearing will only have an effect on MT's because of the worm gear. AT's get their speed from all 4 ABS sensors, averaged together.

Are you sure about this sir?

Not to call you out just questioning your method to madness.. I recently did the Manual Transfer case swap and the speedo is located right below the rear drive flange on all Manual Transmissions. From what I was told, the speedo is located in the rear for AT's. Wyatt had to do a few mods to fix his when he SAS'd his truck and changed out the entire rear axle...

I could be wrong about the AT's but on the MT's you are right about it being a worm gear setup but it's coming off the T-case not the transmission.

Here's a similar link to what you are talking about.
    http://www.rocksolidtoys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164

Because of this Re-gearing will effect all most likely! But if you change your tire size accordingly things should stay with in a mile per hour or 3.. Just depends.

I'm not %100 so don't quote me on this. I could be even more wrong about the AT's!

There's nothing on the rear of the AT trans thats for speed that I have ever seen. I went down this road a long, long time ago when 6" lifts were the newer thing for our trucks. Changing tire size is one way to change the speed. I went from stock, 35's then to 33's. Re-gearing the diff's wont change how fast the wheel is spinning. Despite what others here will tell you, this is how it all works.

Check page 1 here for AT. Page 2 and 3 for MT(Also see system outline @ bottom):

Oh ok.. So we were both right.. I was totally wrong about the AT's though! But yeah..

You are right that re-gearing wont change how fast the wheels are spinng but in my case (MT's) being that the speed sensor is located directly at the rear drive flange, re-gearing will help improve my speedo.

Because wheels will spin at the same speed regardless of what gears are in it, the thing gearing improves is the rate at which it is delivered!

So in my truck I have 3.90's, if I change to 4.88's when I get 37's that will put me almost back at a stock transition... Because it is measured coming out of the flange so my drive shaft will be spinning faster due to the new gears that are turning my tires at its normal speed.

That looks much better with 18s. Nice choice.

Follow a 3"? It was the other way around for me. They were skipping things I would do.
