Adjust headlights w.85 and stock rear?

I just added 5100s to the front and left stock SR5 shocks on the rear with no AAL (I only have 20 grand on the clock). I have 265/75/16 and the truck is almost level with just a wee bit of rake.

Driving home from work last night, the driver of the car in front of me at a stoplight turned completely around and stared as if she thought Five-0 was spotlighting her from behind...that is all I could gather from her action. Do I need to adjust my lights downward with this setup?

The grand search button did not help much with these specifics. I apologize if I am missing a thread (or hundreds of threads) that would address this specific question.

Wouldn't hurt but FYI people flashed there lights at me when my setup was stock. I guess our headlights are just bright period. All she had to do was hit the little tab on her mirror and she's good to go! haha

 

Well, true about the mirror tab, but I don't want to be an A-hole with blinding lights.

Maybe I should wait to see if I get flashed first? This was actually my first time driving after dark w/the extra .85" up front...thanks for the reply.

 

Yes because you changed the angle of the truck you need to change the angle of the headlights.

 

Holy Criminy, that hurts my pea-sized brain. Stupidly, I had never considered this as it is my first time messing with a suspension's height.

Oh yeah - It might have occured to me if I had a jacked up monster truck, but the thought never crossed my mind...you explained the geometery well enough for me to grasp how an inch can cause quite a difference of aim over a distance.

Ok, I'm trying to figure a level place to do this at night (that is safe, too) and can't come up with anything. Do you think the dealership will do this for me for a few bones?

I don't mind spending a little to have it done quickly and correctly.

If I came across like I am the type that doesn't mind blinding someone that was not my intention. Anytime you are behind someone like that the headlights in the rear view are always pretty bright which is why I mentioned the mirror tab thing. I would check them as the others recommended and go from there. I have been flashed at least 10 or 15 times in my truck with stock everything and I know mine are pointed correctly. I have silver star bulbs bu they aren't really that bright. Maybe the reg cabs point higher or something I dunno. Lots of good info here though.

I just called the place that installed my 5100s and they will charge me very little to nothing to do it, so I am good to go.

If I recall, the dealership wanted to charge me $50 to aim my headlights. Not worth it in my opinion, all it takes is a long handled screwdriver, 5 minutes of your time, a tape measure and a wall.

 

I was just quoted 30 bones by the dealership, so I think I'll go with the local yokels for free.

 

Nice, glad they're helping you out! I laughed at the guy when he told me $50 but they do have a whole procedure they have to follow if you pay the dealership and it does take them more time.

 

Hell, in my own front yard I'd be hesitant to do this at night even if I had level ground.

And yeah, the place I get my work done gets most of their business via "word of mouth" - you know, free flat repairs, free tire roation (no proof of purchase required), roses on the seat for female customers, all around excellent attitude and great customer service.

Might be time to properly aim your headlights then. Just cause it's stock doesn't mean they were set right from the factory.

 

dont matter cuz you are gonna get flashed no matter where you go......just the nature of the Taco

 

My lights don't seem like they are high too me? If I pull up behind somebody in a civic at a stop light. Then my lights are shining in there mirrors. Or if I am approaching oncoming traffic and I go over a little rise in the road. My lights shine up higher and I get flashed. The tacoma's lights are bright. These trucks have very good lights from the factory.

 

I agree. Best stock light assemblies I have seen. Not HID bright but I can see what's coming. haha

 

Another Tacoma that should have the same ride height as mine. Honestly mine should be driving slightly lower because of sag over the years. I have checked them when I put the lights on and they're not aimed high. It is a combination of other vehicles sitting lower or just me being on a higher section of road and the sheer brightness of these lights. I could aim them down, but then I wouldn't be able to see?
