 its a crying shame that there was no trainer there to help save that kids back, but thats what he gets for trying to be the hard ass and trying to show off and his friends are even stupider for sitting there rooting him on while the kid breaks his back, but what can you do? some people are just idiots

Any runners in here? If so, what kind of training plan are you doing and what races are you training for?

it was very cool. i had a great time, but i'm glad it's done. lol

cardio wise i did just fine. it was my body that made it more challenging. didnt have the oportunity to fully warm up beacuse it was so dang cold (33 deg plus wind at race start and 39 plus wind at the end). i had some tight muscles the whole time and got on and off cramps in my hip flexor muscles. thought about walking, but never did.

i also have a torn tendon in one of my toes and it started hurting pretty bad at about mile 20, but i just ignored it and toughed it out. once i got close to the finish line the adrenaline masked the pain enough to finish very strong. i passed a ton of people charging up the hill to the MC war memorial (finish line)... i felt cool.

def going to give my body a rest from running for at least a week. gonna do an easy crossfit and maybe some lifting today to loosen up my body and break up some of the lactic acid. hot tub and foam roll too, oh and beer :D

Good deal man. Me and my wife ran our first half marathon in Virginia Beach this September, we're training for a 15k in DC in December. And I'm going to run next year's Marine Corps Marathon for my buddy.
I've had the same hip flexor injury you're talking about. Had it most of the time I've been running seriously. Seems like I can never get it 100% healed. It'll feel better for a little while, and then it starts bothering me again after a big run or a run with a lot of hills.

And FYI, it's the Marine Corps War Memorial, not the Iwo Jima memorial.

i realized my error right after i posted that...thank you though, it's been corrected.

injuries suck, but are part of the game i guess. my hip issues have been following me since pararescue and i'm kinda doubting that they will fully heal or go away.

good luck on your 15K... dress warm and in layers...:)

and just a heads up, when reg. opens up for the MC marathon in a few months sign up on the first day. this year it sold out in less than 36 hours, or something like that. amazing how fast 30,000 slots fill up.

Thanks! yeah, that 15k is gonna totally blow. But...I was running outside all of last winter, so I'll manage.

I hear ya on the hip issues. One of the Marines in my unit is a marathon runner too, and he told me that the hip flexor issues is part of an IT Band injury/strain.

Yeah, I've always heard that about the registration. I hear that it's easier to get a spot on a team or a fundraiser than it is to sign up individually.
