Ordered my Bilsteins today

Ok after reading all the great reviews of the 5100's i finally got the marbles up to order them today. I do not have the TSB done so should i go with an AAL or a progressive spring pack?? i don't tow alot. Plus i will be installing them myself so if there is one that goes on better that would interest me too.

Add an AAL.

 

It depends on your budget and use of the truck, If it was me I would just do the aal. Good luck on the installation.

 

I'm going to install the rear Billies myself, but the fronts are a little beyond my scope. I assumed replacing the front shocks would be two bolts, like in the old days. Boy was I wrong... You have to disassemble the stabilizer links, the sway bar and the tie rod ends. After that, you need a special tool to compress the coils spring in order to mount the shock...

I just got new tires, so I'm having the dealer mount the front 5100's at 1.75", then do the rear spring TSB which includes an alignment. I look at it like this - It will cost me like $100 for mounting the front shocks, but getting new rear springs and an alignment for $100 to get maximum life out of my new tires and new shocks isn't bad at all.

how long did it take everyone to get there stuff in the mail??

the fiance is going to be gone this saturday so i'm hoping to have truck done before she gets home and see how long it takes her to notice it.

Just be careful and know that chances are you will have a viration after you to this...I did the same as you did and set the front to 1.75 and had a small, but very annoying vibe in front cv's. I have the lift in for 2 days before i put it back to stock hieght, realigned aagin and now my truck is perfect again, the 5100's alone are awesome shocks even at stock hieght.

thanks. i have a slight vibration right now with the mud terrains i put on. i'm going to re balance my tires at the same time as i install the lift hoping to get rid of it. I drive 40 miles round trip each day for work so i'd like to have something comfortable.

 

ya i have mud terrains too, and smooth as can be NOW!!! I drive 60-75 miles round trip, so the vibe sucked!! Truck sure did look good though!!

 

I don't have any vibrations at all after the tsb, new tires and 5100's.

However the dealer did charge me three hours of labor for installation of the front two shocks... I thought I read 1.5 hours for the pair. I'll have to reread the fsm and the tsb's.

 

If you want a long happy marriage, do not hide anything from your significant other. Trust is a key thing! Money problems will tear up a marriage really fast. Good luck!

 

yea i hear ya. she's really understanding, and she's the one that got me addicted to the tacoma maddness. she bought an 05' when we first got together and her truck is what convinced me to get my own, i was tired of begging to drive hers.
