The dealer I bought the truck from is about 2hrs drive away, so dropping it off to get fixed is non-trivial. Plus it's new, and just too soon for the bloom to be off the rose. If I drove it for a year before this happened I would feel very differently. But it's literally 2days old.

    same shit as everyone else
Ask for some free shit... If not use big words like "lemon laws" and I bet you can get some free oil changes or a bed mat or something... Tell them your going to post an extensive review of your purchase on Yelp... It will get you farther then you think!

As for the dash... It comes apart really easy and the clips are actually pretty strong so I wouldn't worry about any extra rattles later down the road.

Get it fixed, thats what warranty is for. It's not a mechanical part and shit happens. Any massed produced parts have a small amount of product that has issues. Get over it.

Lemon law requires the problem happen several times and it has to be the same problem. Don't try to get free stuff, don't be a douche, just get he problem fixed.

I get what you're saying about your truck being 3 days old and it's already starting to have problems, but from your description it sounds like a very minor problem. There is a leak in your A/C system somewhere, once they fix it you should be good to go for a long time. You probably spent $30K or so on your truck and you expected better from a new vehicle...but sometimes things happen. Warranty work is performed on most vehicles at some point whether you know it or not. If you bring your car to the dealer for service they're supposed to check to see if your car needs the latest service bulletins/recalls. I bought my truck 5 years ago and I'm still very happy with the purchase and my model year is still selling in the high teens. Can't beat that.

I had several small problems with my truck in the beginning, but no problems since. I would have them fix it and not worry about it after.

I have diagnosted OCD, and I can easily understand your feelings. I return shit very quickly if it is not working out of the box, I get the cleanest undamaged box from the middle of the rack whenever I buy anything, it is just my mind playing games with me, and I know it. But it makes me feel good about the quality of the stuff I buy. If it fails early then I have issues trusting it. If it fails after a normal life time then fixing it is a different story. My OCD side would be with you and I would take it back, and tell them it was unacceptable. But my logical side would say just get it fixed and enjoy it, keep documents and all.

On a side note, if you take it up to get it fixed, make sure they give you a courtesy car, and a nice one, no Yaris or Scion to drive around while they fix your truck. And make sure it is free. I once got a Honda Accord to drive around for 10+ days while my 10+ yr old Honda Civic was in the shop for a blown head gasket after 115k miles, I made a stink about it and they gave me a car. Sure it wasnt clean but it was better than my current car... (made me want to buy a new car), and it meant I didnt need to rent a car or borrow a car. And Toyota owes you that much, you cant be expected to go without a car when you just bought a brand new broken one from them...

Good luck and nice truck, if I had bought new, that is the one I would have gotten, but I couldnt afford new.

dude when i bought my rig it had problems and it still has problems a year later.

all joking aside the squeaking climate control fan does actually get on my nerves many have had them replaced at the dealership yet still have the same problem soon after replacement. not to mention that my dealer said they never heard of the problem before:rolleyes:

also the throwout bearing or some type of clatter is happening when the ac compressor is turned on idk what this problem really is but, i do believe it to be the throw out bearing. once again the dealer claims to have never heard of this problem and it's an intermittent problem so they can't even reproduce the problem to fix it lolz it has been there 3 times for both problems now and nothing.

i do not normally let shit like this go so next time i go back i plan on having them fix it or they will hear shit on an epic scale from me :)

however i love this truck man the tacoma is a great looking and very capable truck right out of the wrapper so i changed what i didn't like about myself and modded it to be a little monster. people stop me all the time wanting to talk about it and stuff lol.

so i would suggest getting your problem nipped in the bud now and then enjoy the truck because i'm almost positive you will.

monkeytaco, i feel your pain, my bumper2bumper just ran out 4 days ago..

so far, im on my 2 windshield, (which they replaced and caulked 6 times now), my 4th rear bumper due to rust, getting my 3rd blower installed on friday. second set of tires due to the truck wears the outside of the front tires (but drives perfectly straight with no shakes or wandering).

i have frequent talks with my service manager who insists despite my paperwork for repeat issues, he cannot warranty anything now that my bumper2bumper is up regardless of how many times they fixed that same issue under warranty.

Just let it go back if its new with problems it more than likely ur just getn started and other than that if it was so hard to get a 6spd just think of how hard it will be to get parts for in the future and the expense to replace it

I don't think parts will be an issue, seems like 90% of the parts on these trucks are completely interchangeable. It is just rare to find a manual V6 that is also a dc, long bed, sport, none of that stuff is special order, it is just rare to see it together, and if your dealer doesn't think it will sell well on his lot, then they won't order one unless you order it. It isn't like a custom made hot rod.

Brought my baby back tonite :(. The dealer was very nice and gave me an awesome loaner to drive while I wait on my new truck. The loaner is and auto 4x4 DC, and I have to admit the auto is interesting. It shifts fast, and smart, and it actually makes the truck feel like it has a bigger engine.

I have been driving manuals since I got my license, I have over a million miles in them, and this is the first auto I might actually like.

Well there is an auto, with everything I want, on the way so I have a week to mull it over. If I decide to go with another manual I am told it will be at least another month to get one in with the stuff I want on it.

Wait. Isn't there a warranty on the new PART? Perhaps he means the whole car warranty is out but from what I understand the actual part that is replaced should still be under warranty? Maybe? Somethings not right here. Because if you replace a part today and the car warranty runs out tomorrow, they are saying that if the new part fails the next day you are out of luck?

OMG ... ... That is me all my life .... another "OCD Brother".

FWIW, being OCD is not so bad in many ways ... saved my azzz as a helicopter pilot in the military in RVN and the business world too ... very few details got past me and I am still that way in many respects ... :D

I am even OCD about my typos in my posts ... it takes me a few times to get my posts just right ... :D

This thread gave me deja vu!

My AC didn't work either, but it was 90F out that day so I caught it in 2 minutes on the test drive. Told them if you want me to buy this truck you're fixing it, not just topping off the refrigerant. New condenser went in, I bought the truck.

Another good reason not to buy used cars in the winter I suppose. But a factory virgin truck without working A/C, just wow.

I would challenge them on warranty if you have the same on-going problems. If the dealer continually fixes something and it's still not right then they should fix it until it is right. They might TELL you that they don't have to, but if you start complaining and write to Toyota corporate then something will be done to fix the problems. These Taco's are just as expensive as a lot of full size trucks and we paid more than other trucks in its class for Toyota's reputation of quality vehicles. They should stand behind their reputation.
