Just had alignment..WTF is this???

So I just got my truck back from the alignment shop. Picked up my son and noticed this on the passenger side front suspension.

I did go offroading this past weekend, and yes they are stock bilsteins with a spacer lift

I am a computer guy not a truck guy, so I will ask you thoughts as to what may be spewing stuff all over my front suspension.

Did your shocks take a shit? Maybe your CV boot?

Wouldn't be the cv boot because the shock itsself is wet as well.

 

it looks like its coming from the cv boot but the grease in it should be alot thicker then that are your shocks any softer ?

 

My initial thought was the CV Boot, but whatever is leaking has gotten UP onto the body og the shock, and coated the bottom spring plate.

Would this occur if it was the CV Boot? (throwing the liquid upward?)

 

Could have slung stuff on it when it was turning. If it was the shock I would think the whole shaft would be lubricated

If you just had an alignment, allot of times they spray WD-40 and such to break the bolts loose. I would suspect that first. If you had a ripped CV or bad shocks a good shop would have caught it.

 

Yeah ut the side of the shock that's wet is the side facing away from the cv.

 

Fins are like that as I had the wheel turned full. Liquid is not thick at all. kinda like oil or brake fluid...

 

wipe it all off real good and see if it does it again.

 

Does not seem to drive differently, but I only have about a half mile since I noticed it. Would a bad shock make noise when you go over a bump? I can take to a parking lot with speed bumps an hit some at low speed.....

Looks to be a little of BOTH....does that strut have oil up top too????

And that CV boot is "hurting" or about to be,fluid is definetly coming from that....

Was the "Off-road" trip before the alignment??? If so ..your "techs" should have spotted the "oil"......

Good luck with repairs BUT count on at least one CV joint/axle and maybe new Struts....

Not sure WHY they would spray LCA area unless replacing one....cams for adjustment are more towards the center...

 

This makes sense, wipe it off really good and see if it does it again. If it does, then something is wrong.

Could be shock oil or brake fluid, and either can happen with a spacer lift. The wetting pattern suggests shock oil. You can eliminate brake fluid as a suspect by checking brake fluid level under the hood.

don't think it's the cv. in the pictures it seems as if there are drips by the strike plate for the bump stop, and there also seems to be a wet area on the brake line. not that it makes a lot of sense, but could they have sprayed the upper control arm bushings with something and it dripped down. could also be the shock, but i doubt it's the cv.
