need help with breaks

so my calipers are leaking fluid and i wanna upgrade my brakes i was looking at LCE and there kit is almost 600$ just wondering is there somthing i can do to replace my calipers and upgrade the brakes that was cheaper

 

here's an option

 

raybestos just came out with rotors for that year of pickup that are called the r-300's. install those with a set of ebc green pads and that would be all you need. plus make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing adjust your rear brakes. the rears are so often unadjusted that it seems like your pedal is worse than it could be.

 

i was thinking about this the thread is helpful if you have a second gen is it the same as first?
and im really worried if they will work with my wheels i only have around 1/2 in clearance or so as it is
if all works out i will get tundra calipers and rotors and hawk pads possibly get steel braded lines as well

 

yes, it will work on the 1st gen tacomas. i plan to do this myself in the near future. most guys that do it jump to 17s, but i think some have used 16s without issues. do more research on it and you can decide if its right for you. there are 2 versions of the tundra calipers that you can choose from.

 

a bit more research yes and im going to add that i have 15s

 

unfortunately 15s are not going to work. early tundras came standard with 16s to clear these calipers.

 

btw they are aftermarket rims dont know if it matters

^^that does actually. Because like Wheelers makes a 15'' rim that will fit on toyotas i think with calibers that need 16'' rims..i think..

mine arent like that i took my tape out and measured my rim and what not the tundra calipers are 10.5 in it looks like it would be so close if not fit mabey take the tire off and look measure some more

 

I helped a buddy put in the tundra calipers and he says the brake pedal feels different since he did it, like the master isnt big enough for those larger calipers

 

I'm contemplating the same upgrade, but hadn't heard of any problems with it. Sub'd...

 

well i have 15 inch rims so today i when to auto zone got the tundra caliper it dident fit i dident think it would just wanted to see so i returned it and got a stock tacoma caliper 55$ no upgrades but the problem is fixed
any ideas for some upgrading?

 

not really. I think the wheelers rims are it for the calipers maybe. Other then than just some good pads and rotors.

yes thats the only thing i can do but i had to replace my caliper and i hate putting stock replacement stuff on if i can upgrade it

 

the factory calipers that came on toyota tacoma's are awsome calipers. Four pistions. I hardley ever see a toyota come in with a fully locked up caliper at work. The best part about the upgrade is just having to buy pads and rotors. but like I said earlier....Adjust the crap out of the rear brakes. Im in tacoma WA and if you ever were up this way I would show you the best way I have found to adj the rears so you get the most out of them.
