VERY cool when it's 100+ degrees, and 100% humidity!

Story makes no sense to me. Why did your float coat not go off until you were in the helo? How did you surface with FD boots on and all that gear with a non inflated float coat? How were you not badly injured from tumbling down the flight deck? How did you fly over the safety nets with out at least hitting them and all the lower cat walks on the port side? Im assuming your talking about the jbd on cat 1..How did you walk to flight deck medical? They should have been on deck waiting for you to get on board, you must be a machine. Sounds like a story you heard (that was probably made up or modified from some other story) that your telling as your own. I'm just sayin, there's always that guy.

Edit: and an E-4 running across the flight deck and causing a class A mishap and somehow not getting his ass chewed off by the flight deck handler is hard to swallow.

And with that I am done...carry on, that is all

Cat 3 not one (One was down, we never used 2 for E-2's, not sure why.) Old style salt pellet activators had a spotty record that's why they replaced them, I swim like a fish (grew up on the water) and like I said, INDY ain't that big. Google CV-62 images and look at the overhead pics, there's not much distance from where I was (next to LSO platform, heading towards the six pack) to the roundown. Safety nets are only a few feet across; you get knocked down by a Hawkeye, you clear those REAL easy. Never said I didn't get hurt; I have fucked up vision, has gotten a lot worse over the years (I'm 43 and now wear bifocals, had perfect vision up until that day), had bruised ribs, cracked wrist bones, and three dislocated fingers, as well as a lovely assortment of bruises and scrapes on my arms, legs, and torso.

And yes, I am a friggen machine...but they only stretcher you if you can't walk.

Edit: Also, there are few days I don't wake up in pain...but not much is from my little swan dive.

And I'm NOT that guy; BTW, you should review your mishap categories; my swim did not even qualify as a Class C, although with the worsening of my vision, I suppose it would fall into the "Permanent, Partial Disability" portion of Class B. Class A is Damage $1 million or more, Fatality, or permanent total disability.

G'nite all, hope you were entertained.
Edit: And it's not the Handler who does the chewing (although he gets his pound of flesh) it's the Air Boss.

Overwhelming the story with detailes doesn't make it true. and the six pack is up by the gut in front of the island your thinking of the slash. I worked fly 3 as an ABH yeah our ships are different but still. And you say you fell off the round down? That's even further than I was imagining, and now you have broken wrists and bruised ribs..any thing else? And may e your handler was a softie cuz the 2 iv worked for would have thrown you overboard again or at least sent you to work the hanger deck for your mistake. There's a reason you don't hang out behind the jbd during launch. :) and really I'm done now got to go to sleep and dream of my own stories:)

But in keeping with the thread:

    - Gone snowboarding in the back country in literally 5 foot deep powder, it was up to my chest and i'm 6'6", you just floated on top till you whipped out and sunk and had to pack down your lil spot to get out.

    - Used a flare gun to re-lite a flare. Creating a massive fireball into the sky.

    - Seen a guy open the wrong steam line valve and launch a cold 24" line 300 ft into the woods.

Nope, thinking of the six pack, right there in front of the island. Our shooter shack was UNDER the LSO plat. (couple frames aft, actually) and I was in a hurry. Yes, DUMB move. Point noted, paid the piper for it.

Guess your one of the other "That guy"...the one who actually has to see the goat fuck in the marketplace before he believes it happens. Known plenty of them. Who were your Handlers and what ship were you on? BTB, if you worked the deck, then you know the Handler does not have a say in what Squadron personnel work it...

This is what a swim call looks like; it's about a 20 foot drop from the elevator, they lowered it to the hangar deck level. We had to swim around to the fantail (back of the ship) to get back on board.
