I feel you on this, a good friend of mine had a reg cab 350 V8 silverado lifted, locked, and armored, top of the line radio with a Kicker SoloX with a JL 1000.1 and RK6 components, a sleek dd Kenwood HU, grey color with camo on the rocker panels. He let me drive it while the S10 was in the shop. I didn't want to give it back! I wanted to buy it so badly when he sold it but couldn't convince the Bank of Mom and Dad for a loan.

Diesel trucks are awesome sounding plus they are really good on gas. If they offered the diesel engines for Taco's in America then we'd probably be getting over 30 mpg. I should also mention that most diesel engines get over 300K miles easy.

How about we make just ONE MORE diesel Tacoma thread just for shits and giggles...

seriously though get the f*ck over it... Toyota will not put a diesel or V8 in a Tacoma for U.S sale.

If they offered a small TDI (like Audi & VW) in a 4x4 Iwould have gotten it. But I love my 4banger.

I would never say never, but it's certainly not likely we'll ever see a small diesel of any flavor in a US Tacoma.

I'd love to see a 4 banger... 2.5-2.9L, dual VVTi, direct injection, turbo charged. Like Ford's Ecoboost or VW's (much smaller) 2.0t FSI.

    Power and economy...

I would take the current 4.0 v6 (or the vvti).

Give me a better diesel, and that wins hands down.

I dont need a lot more, but something like an additional 20-30hp, another 40-60lb/ft (currently 142/265), an make it a little quicker for daily driving (merging onto a highway when your 0-60 time is 12 seconds (flat out - I dont drive flat out very often...) kinda sucks.

I think you are greatly underestimating the impact of the US governments new requirements for fleet MPG coupled with the US desire for HP and performance. I would be surprised if we didnt see quite a few more diesels in the US soon.

There is a reason Nissan is working with Cummins on a sub 3 liter diesel 4 cyl for the Titan, Ford is pushing its Eco-boost turbo's in the trucks, SUV's/crossovers are getting car chassis and available with the 4cyl engines, etc.

On the contrary, I'm very much aware the new CAFE numbers are driving changes... in particular, Toyota is working with Ford on a hybrid power-pack for pickups. Even relatively small sales of a 45mpg truck could drive Toyota's CAFE averages up a couple decimal points. But I would much prefer a nice ecoboost four banger, putting down 260-280 HP and 20-25mpg highway, to that.

Those who want 'power' really should look to the Tundra line.

As for Tacoma though, I'd love a small diesel, but... Well on second thought, it's much discussed elsewhere. Who needs another 'we ain't gettin' diesel' thread?

I don't get the diesel thing, its not like an american diesel. They're not putting a duramax in a hilux. its a 2.8 liter. so its just like a v6 with better gas mileage.

I think that's the point. More HPs & more MPGs. Whats not to like about that?

I REALLY want a diesel, but instead I chose to buy a vehicle that has a V6 instead.

V6 is fine for me. :D

There's a reason the top gear guys refer to diesel as "Satan's fuel"

Diesels are horrible on gas...because they run on diesel fuel.

Worked at a heavy-equipment dealer about 10 years ago, in service. The service vehicles had Duramax diesels, in short, they were trash - the fleet was updated with service trucks with the Powerstroke diesels, huge upgrade to say the least.
