Edumacate me on cutting steel with a jig saw...

How smooth of a cut is it? How tight of a radius can you get? How thick of steel can you cut?

    Like a bandsaw

How tight of a radius can you get?
You can cut some nice curves with it (14" radius but can do 3" in single cut)

I have a Riobi jig saw with metal blades and I cut 1/8" with ease and 1/4" with some patience lol

so where do you all buy your steel online? There's only two places that sell steel in town and they have jack and shit for selection. Neither understands the difference between pipe and tube so I'm not going to waste my time trying to order through them either.

    I've used allmetalsinc.com

I know this is kind of an old post but you should download autodesk inventor onto your PC, its free if you're a student.

If I keep it to 6 foot segments or less the shipping is only like $30. But I'm going to need some longer than six foot segments for the cage, and I don't want to pay freight.

And yea, it was comical. Guy looks at me like I'm stupid and says "tube is square, pipe is round". I didn't even bother correcting him, I just left.

I wonder if it would be possible to program a CNC using paint? lol

Just need to somehow add dimensions.

If the dimensions were there it can be done but not with just paint.
I can import any file into CAD and create a .DXF out of it. Hell I can scan a page from the scanner and create a .DXF for cutting.

In order to command a CNC you need tool paths and a CAD software is needed for that.
