Take your time and plan everything out well. Make sure you have everything you need in advance so you don't have to run out mid install and grab extra parts or worse, compromise.

I'd also do it all at once on a long weekend or something. That way you can take EVERYTHING out. It makes working on it so much easier.

I'll echo was IS says, and reiterate that you should plan, plan, plan. Make sure you do all the reading of other threads on proper panel and console removal so that things go smoothly.

Luckily I had the luxury of having a daily driver while I did a full CLD/CCF/MLV deadening project on my Corvette. It was torn down and completed in about a week's time.

I'll most likely do the Taco in two stages. The doors in stage one when I'm putting in my new speakers. Then stage two will be the cabin floor and rear wall. That way I don't have any down time.

Thankfully I still have about half of the 100 sqft of MLV that I ordered and about 15 CLD tiles remaining from my Vette project. So I'll put in a small order for some CCF and about 20 more CLD tiles to complete the Taco. This weekend I'll be installing my new Alpine IDA-X305S HU and iPhone mount.

Doing a full sound deadening project isn't for the faint of heart. :p
But it definitely is worth the effort and time put into the project IMHO.

Proof that if I could tear down my dream car one month after having it, you can too!

Well I will jump in too, got my rope from Don and my raamat package from Rick in the mail today, so this weekend I'm doing the doors, ran out of funds for the MLV so that will done in the future, probably when I do the floors and roof.

Just wanted to comment and say that Don was nice enough to send me out a sample pack of the various materials so I could see them first hand. Got so excited about getting the samples that I ran out in the driveway with a 10mm socket and ripped the bins out of the back. Am going to post a new thread on my project to avoid hijacking this one.

I just got the Pioneer 4200DVD in the mail today, and the Focal speakers and Amp along with all the foam, mlv, ensolite, raammat, etc will be here this week. I'll start posting pics as I begin. Stay tuned...

What thickness Foam for the Roof? I got my liner off and looks like they have some type of crappy white foam 1/2-3/4" thick. Could I got with 1/2" foam in roof?

    Thanks

That's really just to prevent it from rattling on the metal up there. It's not for sound proofing but just intended to keep noise from being made due to materials impacting each other.

3/4" - 1" but like he said its just to stabilize the liner. But it looks like there is room for .5-.75" or so Foam and .125" stick on sound deadening pads.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish up there?

I did CLD and 1/8" foam on the roof. You dont need more than that. Also expect you ride to smell like solvent for about 4 months once you use HH66. My roof is totally silent.

I am wanting low noise and better acoustics for the sound system.

I just thought if there was already room for 1" factory stuff and looks like plenty of room for at least .5" of sound deadening stuff to up there then why not?

I see your 1/8" and CDL was good for you. If it was tight fit then defiantly need to use that, but if there was plenty of room..........why not go thicker?

Its not needed. The purpose of CLD is not to block noise, it is to kill vibrations. 1/4 coverage (note that is one quarter, not 1/4 of an inch) is all that is really needed. More may give you slight improvements, but on the roof the point of diminishing returns comes VERY VERY quickly.

The only time you have a lot of noise up there is rain, and the CLD will take care of that.

The CCF is there to prevent rattles and give a good fit. No more, no less.

the roof already has some ridges that help stiffen it, and there is no active vibration source for the roof (speakers playing, constant thumping up there) so "overkill" is truly a waste of time, money, and materials.

^Is right...which is why I asked what you were wanting to accomplish. The roof doesn't make any noise on it's own. Rain or extreme bass frequencies will cause it to make noise. I added deadener to mine to kill potential resonance and the foam to keep rattles down.

Use each product (MLV, deadener, foam) for it's intended purpose. Using foam for noise blocking is like using a potato for a TV remote.

Any suggestions on a rigid alternative to the MLV? Something like a 1/8" MDF-type product work? Or a heavy duty chip board type?
